At MRHC Home Health & Southeast Hospice ✈️💪
We are proud David chooses MRHC and thankful to have him as part of our team. His dedication to patient care and the relationships he builds truly make a difference across our communities.
“What made you want to become a physical therapist?”
Believe it or not, I originally planned to become a lawyer. During my undergraduate years at McNeese State University, I lived with my aunt and uncle, and my uncle Jerry Worley was a long-time physical therapist in private practice. He encouraged me to spend time observing the profession, and after seeing the impact PT could have on people’s lives, I realized PT allowed me to make a good living, help people, solve problems, and stay far away from courtrooms, so I switched majors and never looked back.
“Where did you go to school?”
I attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana for undergrad and graduated from LSU Medical Center in New Orleans in 1989. That means I’ve been practicing PT long enough to remember when documentation was done entirely on paper… and somehow survived it.
“What’s your favorite part about being a PT?”
Definitely the relationships with patients. I enjoy helping people understand what’s happening with their body in terms they can actually understand. My patients often tell me I explain things better than anyone ever has before. I also work alongside an exceptional team of nurses and therapists at MRHC Home Health & Hospice, and that teamwork makes a tremendous difference in patient care.
“If you weren’t a PT, what would you be doing?”
Probably something aviation-related. Flying has become my expensive hobby of choice. Sometimes I wish I had taken up gardening.
“One fun fact about you?”
I bought a plane mainly so I could travel between Oklahoma and Louisiana to spend time with my family, and with my daughters and grandkids. What would normally be a 9-hour drive becomes a much more manageable 2.5-hour flight. Also, my miniature long-haired dachshund, Gracie-Mae, fully believes she is the center of the household and requires affection approximately every 3 minutes.
“Best advice you give your patients?”
Nobody wakes up excited to exercise. But nobody gets excited to take medicine either, and yet they still do it every day. After the age of 40, the body naturally begins to lose strength and function, and medical conditions can accelerate that decline. Exercise is one of the few things proven to slow or reverse it. I always tell patients there’s no magical pill, vitamin, or supplement that replaces consistent daily strength training and exercise.
“Why do you choose MRHC?”
I truly value the people at MRHC Home Health & Hospice. I work with an outstanding group of nurses, therapists, supervisors, and staff who genuinely care about patients, and support one another. MRHC gives me the autonomy to care for patients the right way, trusts my clinical judgment, and appreciates the experience I bring to the team. They make me feel valued as both an employee and a person. I also appreciate the flexibility and understanding they provide so I can maintain strong relationships with my family in Louisiana. Plus, they tolerate my occasional aviation stories and dad-level humor.
🏡❤️ When choosing a Home Health agency, remember that therapy is not separate from care, it is part of the team. At MRHC Home Health & Southeast Hospice, our therapists work alongside our nurses and staff to provide true continuity of care, because consistent communication, teamwork, and relationships matter when it comes to patient outcomes. 🤝🩺✨
