Do you want to train where cardiovascular care is both high volume and complex?

DHR Health Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship training happens in a region where obesity, diabetes, and hypertension contribute to a wide range of heart conditions in a diverse patient population.

While being mentored by specialists from the largest cardiology group south of San Antonio, fellows will develop their skills within a dedicated Heart Institute and PCI-Accredited Chest Pain Center, with advanced exposure to structural, valve, and endovascular procedures.

As the first program of its kind in the Rio Grande Valley, this fellowship gives trainees a role in shaping what cardiovascular disease training can become.

A strong surgical critical care fellowship starts with a strong foundation, built alongside experts in the field.

For our newest fellow, that foundation is being built alongside Dr. Jeffrey Skubic, DHR Health Level 1 Trauma Center Medical Director and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Program Director.

Early in training, Dr. Juan Garces Uribe will work directly with Dr. Skubic in patient care, learning how an experienced surgical expert approaches complex cases as he builds the confidence to manage critically injured patients independently.

For surgeons looking for a fellowship where hands-on guidance and real clinical experience shape the physician they become, DHR Health is where you want to train.

A resident’s wellness is just as important as their professional growth.

That’s why we make time for days like these.

For our Diagnostic Radiology, Family Medicine, and Urology residents, that meant testing their aim with some axe throwing and getting creative with a DIY craft day.

Having dedicated time for wellness gives our residents space to recharge and feel supported outside the hospital as well.

If you want training that matches your ambition, DHR Health is where your future starts.

During didactic sessions, our OB/GYN residents work directly with experts in their field, including Dr. Eduardo Robles, a DHR Health hospitalist and a core faculty member in our OB/GYN residency program.

Through hands-on training with specialized equipment and models, residents refine their technique and build the experience their specialty demands.

At DHR Health, that hands-on approach runs through the entire OB/GYN residency experience, moving residents closer to the specialists they came here to become.

We congratulate them on reaching this milestone and wish them the best as they continue their training.

At DHR Health, learning opportunities are always falling into place.

For this learning session, General Surgery residents and rotating trainees learned about fall prevention from Dr. Thomas K. Duncan, Co-Trauma Medical Director at Ventura County Medical Center and Co-Medical Director of Anacapa Surgical Associates.

With experience in trauma surgery, Dr. Duncan gave our trainees a deeper look at how a trauma care expert approaches fall prevention and the injuries they may be called on to manage.

Bringing outside experts into our training environment strengthens the way our residents and faculty learn. It keeps our programs connected to evidence-based teaching principles, introduces new perspectives and methodologies, and gives our trainees more ways to think through the care they will one day lead.

At DHR Health, high-level training starts with high-level experience.

Our OB/GYN residents recently worked through robotic simulations with Dr. Rene I. Luna, a minimally invasive gynecologic surgery specialist with over 1,000 robotic procedures.

Robotic simulation adds another dimension to their training, giving residents opportunities to build advanced skills that they’ll carry into their future as OB/GYN specialists.

If you want a residency where experts bring hands-on teaching into the learning experience, DHR Health is where you want to be.

Our educators take the time to learn the best practices today so our trainees can become the experts of tomorrow.

The University of Houston Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine hosted clinical educators from DHR Health for this year’s Preceptor Faculty Development Conference, “Teaching Tomorrow’s Clinicians Today.” This event focused on ways to strengthen how medical learners are taught, supported, and evaluated throughout their training.

Dr. Samira Mohamed, interim Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Celia Pantoja Rojas, Internal Medicine Program Director, and Dr. Oscar Mendez, Internal Medicine Associate Program Director, attended the conference to bring the latest practice and innovations in education to our faculty and residents.

Our new fellow is ready to turn his surgical experience into critical care expertise.

DHR Health Graduate Medical Education is proud to announce the match of our 2027–2028 Surgical Critical Care Fellow, Dr. Monzur Haque.

When every second matters, our fellows are trained to be ready. At the DHR Health Level I Trauma Center, Dr. Haque will join a team invested in his growth as he develops the judgment and confidence to care for patients in their most critical moments.

We look forward to welcoming Dr. Haque to DHR Health.

Grand Rounds expands the way our trainees think about medicine.

This session featured Dr. Daira Rodriguez, Clinical Psychologist and Behavioral Health Specialist, and the newest member of our Family Medicine faculty, who challenged residents and fellows to look at chronic pain through a biopsychosocial lens.

Through GME Grand Rounds, trainees are exposed to experts across all specialties, building cross-disciplinary knowledge that prepares them to approach patient care from every angle.
