In my opinion, the biggest FAIL is that no one listened to her cries for help. It’s 2026 and postpartum pychosis isn't a new mental health crisis. As a midwife, I can't imagine why her HCP didn't hear or believe her. In my 36 years of caring for pregnant and postpartum women, I've seen 2 PP women with pychosis. It was scary….for all. They both needed medication AND hospitalization and counseling. Many others only needed councling and/or medication. How did her screams for help go unnoticed?!! I’m afraid it's because the focus is always on the baby. And not enough on the mother.  I tell my postpartum mamas that the baby is adjusting, but they are recovering. Big difference there.

Interviewing, potential client: "What about delayed cord clamping? Do you do that?"
Me: "Since I was a student (1990) we've never given the cord much thought, while waiting for the placental to deliver. So, yeah, I guess we "do" delayed cord clamping.
