Classical Mat Pilates is more than just a series of exercises. There is a reason behind the order and a science behind the flow.
Each movement prepares your body for the next movement. As you move through the 34 exercises, you’re building strength, mobility, coordination, and awareness. Nothing is random. Every exercise has a purpose and every movement connects to the next.
What I love most about Classical Mat is how it allows us to experience the body as a whole. Through the sequence, we’re lengthening, loading, connecting, and expanding the fascial lines throughout the body. We aren’t just working muscles—we’re creating connections.
Classical Mat is also a great way to see where you are in your Pilates practice. It will challenge you, expose weaknesses, highlight strengths, and help you discover new connections in your body. It requires focus, concentration, and control, but the reward is a stronger and more connected body.
One of the reasons this class is offered as a prepaid series is because Classical Mat is a practice that builds over time. Consistency matters. While you’ll benefit from attending a single class, the real value comes from returning week after week and allowing your body to learn the sequence.
As you progress through the series, you’ll begin to understand how stretch and recoil work within the body and how each movement connects to the next. By your fourth class, you’ll likely notice a deeper awareness of these patterns and a stronger sense of connection throughout your body. The series format supports this learning process and helps you experience the full benefits of the Classical Mat method.
Who is it for?
If you’ve been practicing Pilates for a while and are looking to deepen your understanding of the work, Classical Mat is for you. Whether you’re intermediate or advanced, the sequence will continue to challenge and teach you.
