Who you work with matters just as much (if not more) than where you work.
Do you agree?
Over the years, I’ve worked in a variety of places, and one lesson has stayed with me:
The people around you matter.
I’m naturally a positive person. I love being part of a team, encouraging others, and finding the good in people. But I’ve learned that even the most optimistic person is influenced by the environment they’re in.
I’ve experienced seasons where I felt alone, where negativity seemed to carry more weight than encouragement, and where I found myself simply trying to get through the day.
I’ve also experienced seasons that looked completely different.
I was surrounded by women who were kind, supportive, quick to help, and genuinely wanted to see one another succeed. Women who shared my Christian faith, and just being around them challenged me to become a better person. Their kindness, servant-hearted attitudes, and the way they cared for others left a lasting impact on me—both personally and professionally.
That’s the kind of environment that changes you.
This picture probably seems random.
It’s just folded laundry.
But to me, it’s so much more than that.
For years I’ve washed every massage sheet and towel myself—loading them into my car, hauling them home, washing them between family responsibilities, folding everything, then loading it all back into my car to take to work and do it all over again.
Recently, without me asking, one of my coworkers simply… did my laundry.
It wasn’t expected. It wasn’t their responsibility.
They just saw an opportunity to help.
To someone else, it’s a stack of clean sheets.
To me, it was someone saying, “I see you, and you don’t have to carry this by yourself today.”
That simple act of kindness took a huge weight off my shoulders. It reminded me that the smallest gestures are often the ones people remember the most.
Who you work with influences more than your workload. It shapes your attitude, your perspective, your growth, and sometimes even your faith.
I’m incredibly grateful for the people God has placed in my life throughout different seasons. Each one has taught me something. And today, I’m especially thankful for those who choose kindness, serve without being asked, and make the people around them feel seen.
Because sometimes, it’s never really about the laundry.
It’s about knowing you don’t have to carry everything alone.
If you find yourself feeling unhappy or dreading going to work, it may be worth paying attention to the environment around you—and how it’s affecting you over time.
