Rear-facing is the safest way to ride.

Why? In a crash, a rear-facing seat protects your child’s head, neck, and spine by spreading the force across the whole seat. Children up to 23 months old are 75% less likely to die or be seriously injured when riding rear-facing.

The AAP recommends staying rear-facing as long as possible — until your child maxes out the height and weight limit of their seat. That’s often age 3 or 4, not just 2.
