Today I want to introduce you to a very special man Coach Neil’s grandfather, Ed Weymann.
Born in Germany in 1933 and later immigrating to the United States, Ed carried with him a lifelong passion that shaped so much of who he was: soccer.
To say he loved the game would be an understatement. Soccer wasn’t just a sport to him. It was community. It was friendship. It was discipline. It was family.
He spent decades helping build and grow the sport, winning championships, mentoring players, managing teams, and helping develop youth soccer programs. His accomplishments earned him a place in the Sports Club Alemannia Hall of Fame, but if you knew Ed, you knew it was never just about trophies.
He believed soccer brought people together.
No matter where you came from, what language you spoke, or what your background was, once the game started, everyone was on the same field.
That belief stayed with him throughout his life.
His pride in his soccer career ran deep, and rightfully so. The friendships, memories, and opportunities the game gave him were some of the greatest joys of his life.
The legacy he leaves behind isn’t just in championships or records. It’s in the generations that followed him, the players he inspired, and the family values he passed down.
Thank you, Ed, for reminding us that sports have the power to unite people.
God bless America. 🇺🇸⚽
