As I reflect on the passing of Dr. Garry Landreth, I have been thinking about the many ways he shaped not only my professional life, but also Brandy’s Bag of Air.

Years ago, while working at the Center for Play Therapy, I frequently received calls from therapists asking where they could purchase a BOA. Although Garry had long identified the BOA as an important item in the playroom, there simply was not a durable, therapeutic option readily available.

When I began developing Brandy’s Bag of Air, Garry generously shared his time, knowledge, and experience. Along with other leaders in the field, he helped me think through the colors, design, and characteristics that would make the BOA most useful for children and therapists.

He also encouraged me to look more deeply at the research on aggression and the role of therapeutic toys that are often misunderstood or excluded from playrooms. Those conversations helped shape not only the product itself, but also my understanding of why these tools matter.

The BOA we make today exists in part because of Garry’s guidance, support, and belief that children benefit from having safe and intentional ways to express themselves through play.

I am incredibly grateful that he shared his wisdom, challenged my thinking, and encouraged this work from the very beginning. Every BOA that finds its way into a playroom carries a small piece of his influence.
Thank you, Garry, for your mentorship, your encouragement, and your unwavering commitment to children, therapists, and the power of play.
