Sometimes you find yourself in the right place at the right time, and you get the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life.

In this case, I feel like I got to make a difference in two.

Most people know me for bariatric and minimally invasive surgery, but I’m a general surgeon first, and I still value that part of my practice deeply. It was through general surgery call that I first met this incredible couple during one of the most difficult seasons of their lives.

At the time, the road ahead was uncertain. The months that followed were not easy, but I had the privilege of watching a husband stand beside his wife, advocate for her, encourage her, and become such an important part of her recovery.

Seeing them both back in my office, smiling, together, and moving forward with their lives is one of those moments that reminds me why I chose this profession.

I’m grateful I happened to be there when they needed me, and even more grateful to see how far they’ve come.

These are the moments that make it all worth it.
