HLAA North Bay Chapter president Sara Oser (far left) is proof that sometimes, speaking up is all it takes to make a difference. After trying the assistive listening system at the Marin County Board of Supervisors, she offered feedback about what did and did not work well. The Board of Supervisors took Sara's feedback seriously and invited her to try their upgraded system. Way to go, Sara!

Open captions make going to the movies a consistently accessible experience for people with hearing loss. As of July 1, Virginia joined a growing list of places requiring movie theaters to offer more open-captioned screenings for popular films. We're grateful to CTIA for hosting a day of discussions between rights and advocates and their counterparts in the telecommunications industry. HLAA executive director Barbara Kelley spoke on a panel about the importance of modernizing the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act to ensure keeps pace with rapid advancements in wireless, connected devices, and digital services.
