Wow! The Nitro Circus 2.0 Big Air & Bad Ideas 2026 Tour is a wrap! Thank you to every Sports Chiropractic Physician and Sports Physical Therapist who joined us for this exciting tour. You all crushed it spending the month of August, learning medical event management from WMI Global Inc, and having the joy of working with some of the world's greatest action sports athletes. Watching an athlete flip 30+ feet into the air on a motorcycle, letting it pull away from his body, then pulling it back upside down and landing it wheels down shiny side up, makes you have an appreciation for true physical talent. Thank you for being there and being a part of WMI Global Inc!

We did it! Something never done in Pennsylvania before! We took EIGHT Sports Chiropractic Physicians and managed ALL of the medical for the State Games of America-Keystone Games (KSG) in the state of Pennsylvania for their biannual/annual event. Two weekends plus of coverage and the KSG staff was thrilled with our performance!
I was told by a medical doctor in 2013, only MEDICAL doctors can be the medical directors for sporting events in Pennsylvania. Well, they did not know or understand sports chiropractors! Fast forward to NOW!
The 2026 State Games of America—which integrated the traditional Keystone State Games and Pennsylvania Senior Games in Happy Valley/State College, Pennsylvania—welcomed more than 8,000 amateur athletes and supporters from roughly 36 to 40 states competing across over 30 to 50 sports.
Sports we covered: Ice Hockey, Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Basketball, Pickleball (yes, Pickleball), Gymnastics, Figure Skating, Ice Dancing, Archery and Powerlifting.
And eight of your brethren knocked it out of the Park! Please give your kudos to: Jeffrey Holtz, Adam Maurer, Justin Miller, Darcy Ogloza, Tyler Rank, Shawn Sebora, Anne Sorrentino and Stuart Tollen.

Okay, Part 2: Stretching vs. Mobility-Which do You Need?
Stretching is designed to make muscles and surrounding tissues more flexible. Common types include:
Static stretching: Hold a position for 20–60 seconds (best after exercise).
Dynamic stretching: Controlled movements through a range of motion (best before exercise).
PNF stretching: Contract-relax techniques often used in therapy or sports medicine.
Mobility is the combination of:
Joint and Muscle flexibility
Strength and Balance
Motor control and Coordination
A person may have flexible muscles but poor mobility if they cannot control movement through that range.
For example:
Someone may be able to pull one’s knee to the chest while lying down (good flexibility),
but if one cannot squat deeply without falling backward, hip or ankle mobility is likely limited.
Common Mobility Exercises include:
World's Greatest Stretch
Hip CARs (Controlled Articular Rotations)
Shoulder CARs
Deep squat holds with movement
Thoracic spine rotations
Walking lunges with rotation
Leg swings
Cat-Cow
Ankle dorsiflexion rocks

Stretching vs. Mobility---Which do You Need? (Part 1)

Stretching and mobility are related, but not the same thing. A simple way to think about it is:

Stretching improves the length and flexibility of muscles and connective tissues.
Mobility improves your ability to actively move a joint through its full range of motion with strength and control.

Stretching:
Focuses on muscles
Increases flexibility
Can be passive (holding a position)
Little strength required
Example: Holding a hamstring stretch for 30 seconds

Mobility: Focuses on joints and muscles working together
Increases usable range of motion
Always active and controlled
Requires strength, balance, and coordination
Example: Deep bodyweight squats or hip circles

Follow up to last week's post on Magnesium--Which one should you choose?

When shopping for a magnesium supplement, you'll quickly notice there are many different types. The mineral magnesium is bound to another compound; that combination affects how well it is absorbed and what benefits it may provide.

Magnesium Glycinate: Magnesium bound to the amino acid glycine. This is often considered the best choice for overall magnesium supplementation, especially for those with sensitive stomachs. Because glycine has calming properties, it is frequently used to support relaxation, stress management, and healthy sleep.
Magnesium Citrate: Magnesium bound to citric acid. It is well absorbed and helps draw water into the intestines, making it a popular choice for relieving constipation.
Magnesium Malate: Magnesium bound to malic acid, a naturally occurring fruit acid involved in energy production. This form is commonly used to support energy levels, reduce muscle soreness, and may be beneficial for individuals with fibromyalgia.
Magnesium L-Threonate: Magnesium bound to threonic acid, a metabolite of vitamin C. This newer form has been studied for its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier and is often chosen to support memory, cognitive function, and mood.
Magnesium Oxide: Magnesium bound to oxygen. While it contains a high amount of elemental magnesium, it is poorly absorbed by the body. It is most commonly used for heartburn, indigestion, or constipation rather than correcting a magnesium deficiency.
Magnesium Sulfate: Better known as Epsom salt, this form is most commonly used in warm baths to help soothe sore muscles and reduce swelling. Although relaxing, Epsom salt baths are not an effective way to correct magnesium deficiency.
Magnesium Taurate: Magnesium bound to the amino acid taurine. This form is often chosen to support cardiovascular health, healthy blood pressure, and blood sugar regulation.

A Simple Guide
For Sleep & Relaxation: Magnesium Glycinate
For Constipation Relief: Magnesium Citrate or Magnesium Oxide
For Energy & Muscle Soreness: Magnesium Malate
For Cognitive Support: Magnesium L-Threonate
For Heart Health: Magnesium Taurate

When in doubt, Magnesium Glycinate is generally the best all-around choice for most people looking to support overall health and wellness.

Magnesium Deficiency:
The Missing Link in Pain, Recovery, and Nervous System Health:
Magnesium is involved in more than 300 processes in the body, including muscle function, nerve health, energy production, sleep, and pain regulation. Yet magnesium deficiency is surprisingly common.
Low magnesium levels can contribute to muscle cramps, tension, headaches, fatigue, poor sleep, anxiety, and increased pain sensitivity. Because magnesium helps regulate the nervous system, deficiency may leave nerves more excitable and muscles less able to relax.
Several factors increase the risk of deficiency, including chronic stress, processed foods, certain medications, digestive issues, excessive alcohol use, and heavy exercise. Athletes and active individuals may have increased magnesium needs due to losses through sweat and higher physical demands.
If you struggle with chronic muscle tightness, poor recovery, sleep issues, or persistent fatigue, magnesium deficiency may be worth considering as part of the bigger picture.

Next week: What are Magnesium salts and which do I need?

I saw myself in this article and decided to share….
Excerpted from Part 1 of a Series:

Nerve pain (neuropathy) is strongly associated with diabetes, a condition often linked to chronically elevated blood sugar levels. Diet also plays a role in other conditions, including degenerative joint disease.

Consider the typical American breakfast: coffee paired with a blueberry muffin, cereal, a bagel, or donut—many of which are highly processed carbohydrates. We often begin our day with foods that are overprocessed, high in sugar and sodium, and lacking essential vitamins and minerals. Over time, this pattern can contribute to inflammation and negatively impact overall health.

Despite growing awareness of lifestyle-related conditions, many of us do not consistently monitor what we eat. Patients frequently come in with persistent pain and wonder why recovery is taking longer than expected (refer to last week’s message on recovery times). Diet is often an overlooked factor.

At times, I’ve asked patients to track everything they eat for five days. Almost always, they return saying, “This wasn’t a typical week.” But that raises an important question—what does “typical” really look like? Is it consistently preparing meals at home, bringing lunch to work, and avoiding frequent snacking or convenience foods? For many, the honest answer is no.

To be clear, this isn’t about perfection—and please know, I’m not at all exempt from this. I enjoy a good happy hour, and garlic chicken wings from Costco are hard to pass up. However, frequency matters. Occasional indulgences are not the issue, but when they become routine, they can impact our health, slow recovery, and affect how we feel day to day.

It is time to schedule your appointment…

Recovery Timelines
(Apply this to All Healing)

Recovery rarely follows a straight line, which can be surprising. It’s common to have days when movement feels easier, followed by days when stiffness or soreness returns. These ups and downs are a normal part of healing and usually reflect your body adapting—not a setback.

Early in treatment, progress often feels quick and encouraging. Over time, improvements may seem slower or less noticeable. This phase is still important, as your body is building strength, stability, and control—even if pain levels aren’t changing as dramatically. Plateaus can be frustrating, but they are a normal part of the process.

As activity levels increase, some soreness is expected. This doesn’t necessarily signal injury or regression; it often means your tissues are being challenged in a healthy way. Your care plan will help you understand what’s expected and when adjustments are needed.

Every recovery timeline is unique, influenced by the nature of the injury, daily demands, and consistency with exercises. The goal of treatment isn’t just short-term relief, but long-term confidence and resilience. Progress may not be perfect, but with steady effort, it builds a strong foundation for lasting results.

It is time to schedule your appointment … as this is necessary for maintenance also!
