A comprehensive article in Biomed Public Health demonstrated the relationship between the growing incidence of neck and back pain with mental health issues in youth. The authors noted that the primary reason was due to shared neurobiological pathways.
The hypothalamus receives nervous system input from the body and then works to create hormones, which play a large role in mood and mental well-being. Spinal stress and postural imbalances can negatively affect the process and be a primarily cause or significant contributing factor in mental health issues.
