Reclaiming the Roots.

My Father made this when I was about 10 years old for my Grandmother. The matriarch of our family. Many Black Americans like myself, many of us do not know the true familial lines and relationships within our families history and genealogy. This serves as one of the only complete records of my father’s lineage. I remember watching him create this. he gathers tree branches, live moss and other tiny flowers, and MADE our family tree.

In my home, this piece is sacred to me.

it serves as physical evidence of my kin before me, that’s my loving ancestors are always present.

but also it serves as a powerful reminder of possibility.

We can always rediscover, remember, rebuild and RECREATE.
