After a great deal of reflection, I have decided to completely retire from medicine. I will be taking this page offline shortly.
Medicine has shaped most of my adult life. Being a doctor was my purpose. That role lead to the creation of meaningful relationships, gave me many extraordinary experiences, and the privilege of being trusted during some of the most difficult moments in people’s lives. I remain deeply grateful for all of that.
It also took more from me than I was willing to admit for a long time.
Over the years, empathy fatigue accumulated quietly. I became increasingly aware of how much emotional weight healthcare professionals are expected to carry, often without meaningful support systems of their own. Eventually, I had to acknowledge that I could no longer continue giving from a place that felt depleted.
This decision has not been a sudden escape. It has been percolating for a few years—then came the gradual recognition that one chapter was ending and that another was beginning to reveal itself.
That new chapter is already filling me with excitement.
I am helping to launch a nonprofit focused on traditional arts and cultural exchange between the United States and Thailand. It is work rooted in creativity, preservation, education, community, and connection. It allows me to continue serving others, but in a way that feels expansive rather than exhausting.
Living in Southeast Asia has also transformed me in unexpected ways. Leaving behind various cults and toxic systems in USA and immersing myself more deeply in the cultures and Buddhist traditions of this region has filled my cup. I am learning to value quiet over spectacle, presence over intensity, and sustainability over constant self-sacrifice.
I feel peaceful. I feel inspired. I feel more hopeful about the future than I have in years.
