During their lifetime, 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. It is also the second-leading cause of cancer death in American men. Thankfully, the 5-year survival rate is high, thanks in part to early detection. So, what should you do?

One exam healthcare professionals use to help screen is a PSA blood test. This test measures the protein produced by the prostate. It's a simple blood test that can be done at Orleans Community Health locations. In short, if your PSA is elevated, your provider can determine if you need additional testing.

While early prostate cancer doesn't always have symptoms, some do exist. This is why it's important to have your yearly/routine physicals with your primary care provider to determine whether or not the PSA exam is right for you.
