Yesterday was black Doula day, and the start of black maternal health week 🤎✨

As a community we have a duty to care for each other and our neighbors. Somewhere along the way, racism got in the way and shaped maternal outcomes (shocker) for black and brown people.

This week is about honoring our unique experiences as black women and birthing people & engaging in conversations on how we continue to move forward, shift policies, advocate & care for our sisters

There is great pride in holding space as a black birth worker in my community & great pain in being one of the slim few.

To be young, gifted and black 🫶🏾

Oof and what a journey breastfeeding is. My first baby I was diagnosed with preeclampsia and had her at 36 weeks, induction- magnesium- epidural. All of the things. It took 21 days for my milk to come in.

We used a SNS (supplemental nursing system) to feed. (Similar to the baby and mom on the left in this art) So we had formula in a syringe connected to a tiny tube we wrapped around my breast so she could latch and suckle while time no milk came from my body but rather slowly out of the syringe.

She was formula fed those first 3 weeks but I NEVER let my eye off my goal. I wanted to breastfeed. I wanted to regain control of my motherhood experience since I felt it was “taken” from me in those early moments

Preeclampsia is hard and scary and reshapes you as a mother and woman

I can’t wait to walk again this year at the Space Coast Florida Promise Walk for Preeclampsia and speak as the Mission mom for this year.

I truly hope to see more of my friends there this year 🩷🌸☀️ photo from Lauren J. Turner Fine Art when I worked at WIC my office was filled with her works, the families loved seeing themselves in her work

Sometimes breastfeeding looks like this ❤️

VBAC should not be treated as a last-resort option. It is a safe and reasonable choice for many women after cesarean.

And yet, so many are never truly offered it.

Instead, the conversation often starts with “when we schedule your repeat cesarean…” before you’ve even had the chance to ask about your options.

That’s not informed consent.

The truth is, informed choice changes everything. The provider you choose plays a major role in whether VBAC is even presented as an option, let alone supported.

This doesn’t mean every woman will choose VBAC. And it doesn’t mean every VBAC will look the same. But it does mean you deserve full, evidence-based information and a care team willing to have that conversation with you.

If your current provider isn’t open to discussing VBAC, it’s worth asking deeper questions, seeking second opinions, and exploring what support could look like elsewhere.

This is your body. Your birth. Your decision.

International Doula Month 💜 such a beautiful space and role I have stepped in. From the late night phone calls, to supporting her decisions throughout pregnancy, long hours in the hospital room and many laughs and intimate moments shared.

This for me, is holy work. It is ancestral, it is sacred, and I am proud of the women who I have gotten to witness bring their babies earthside.

Last post of February 2026, may we continue to honor the legacy of our ancestors. Those that walked the path prior to us, and who have become our teachers. Happy Black History Month.

Something so dear and close to my heart. As a survivor of preeclampsia, supporter of women and maternal health, I feel so honored to be able to speak at this event. Women's medical care matters and our voices will be heard. I hope to see more familiar faces at the event and if you want to walk with me, please do!

We are so grateful for the Robinson Family 🩷

Please join us May 16th, to meet them and hear Mijah share her story!
