97 yo and still running!

Earl Fee's remarkable athleticism at 97 is highlighted by a new M95 indoor world record in the 200m with a time of 48.89 seconds, set at the Athletics Ontario meet. Fee's stunning performance surpasses the prior record of 50.40 by more than 1.5 seconds. This feat represents Fee's 12th current world record, increasing his career total to over 60 records since he joined masters athletics at 56. His age-adjusted 200m time would be equivalent to 23.33 for someone half a century younger. Fee holds multiple indoor world records, including the 400m and 800m events. For younger masters athletes, Fee stresses the value of moderation and pacing.

Fun trail race at the Turkey Creek 5k. Didn’t run for time this time just wanted to enjoy nature and make sure I didn’t sprain an ankle 😆. Hot as hell outside but was shaded by the trees. There were areas that we were pretty much running single file and you couldn’t get around people - will take note of this for next year strategy. Will definitely do this race again next year!

Do you or does someone you know need a ride to a food pantry, doctor appointment, job interview, court hearing or one time to work during a car repair? and ask about Lyft rides, which are temporarily available through a partnership with United Way Worldwide. No guarantees until ride is approved, but some additional details:
•Rides must be scheduled at least 48 hours and no more than one week in advance.
•Callers who meet initial eligibility will be referred to our scheduler, who works weekdays only. Return calls will be made only to clients who likely will qualify.
•There is cost cap per ride so Brevard’s geography means some distances may be too far.
•If you are uncertain whether your need for ride would be allowed under the partnership, call and ask.

She stepped foot in the gym at 63 yo for the first time. Stopped her osteoporosis from all the weight training and went on to completing American Ninja Warrior at 74yo. As I always say, “if there’s a will, there’s a way”. You can accomplish what you want at any age.

This is sarcopenia (muscle wasting) as we age and or with inactivity. In this picture the girth size is almost the same. You can prevent this through exercise! Being “active” is not exercise.

This is what muscle loss actually looks like.

On the left is healthy muscle.
On the right is sarcopenia.

At first, the change is subtle.
Muscle fibers begin to shrink.

Over time, they become smaller.
And less densely packed.

The space between fibers increases.
And fat begins to replace muscle.

This is not just “losing strength.”
It’s a structural change.

The muscle becomes weaker.
And less efficient.

This can happen with aging.
Or with inactivity.

That difference you’re seeing isn’t just visual.
It directly affects function.

Less muscle means less power.
And less support for your body.
