Beach days are one of the best parts of summer, but a few simple precautions can help keep the fun going all day long.

Water safety should start before anyone steps into the ocean. Be sure to review basic safety rules with children, stay within designated swimming areas, pay attention to flags and lifeguards, and keep a close eye on young swimmers at all times. Even strong swimmers can be affected by waves, currents, and changing water conditions.

It's also important to stay hydrated! Time in the sun, heat, and physical activity can lead to dehydration faster than many people realize. Bring plenty of water and encourage everyone to drink regularly throughout the day, not just when they feel thirsty.

Finally, don't underestimate the sun. Too much sun exposure can lead to painful sunburns and even sun poisoning, which can cause symptoms like severe redness, blistering, headache, nausea, and dehydration. Apply sunscreen before heading to the beach, reapply often, and take breaks in the shade during the hottest parts of the day.

A little planning can go a long way toward making sure the whole family stays safe and has fun in the sun.

Many men are taught to “push through” stress, anxiety, exhaustion, or emotional struggles without talking about it. But mental health is an important part of overall health.

This Men’s Health Month, we encourage men to prioritize:
✔ Managing stress
✔ Getting enough sleep
✔ Staying connected to supportive people
✔ Talking to a healthcare provider when something feels off

Taking care of your mental well-being is a sign of strength, not weakness.
If you need support, Brevard Health Alliance is here to help. 💙

You never expect to witness a cardiac emergency, but knowing CPR can help you stay calm and take action when every second matters. During CPR & AED Awareness Week, take a few minutes to learn about a skill that could truly save a life.

More than 350,000 cardiac arrests happen outside of hospitals in the U.S. each year, and immediate CPR can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival. The good news? CPR is easier to learn than most think. And, AEDs, the emergency devices found in places like schools, gyms, and airports, are also designed to guide everyday people through the process with simple voice instructions.

One helpful tip many CPR instructors share is to perform chest compressions to the beat of songs with about 100 to 120 beats per minute. Songs like “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees, “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus, and “Crazy in Love” by Beyoncé can help you keep the right rhythm during hands-only CPR.

If you have never taken a CPR class, this is a great week to start. We challenge you to sign up for a CPR and AED training classes near you through the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.

Do you know which song you would use to keep the beat during CPR? Share your favorite in the comments below!

As Floridians, we love fireworks! And, while they are a favorite part of many summer celebrations, they can also lead to serious and sometimes permanent eye injuries. During Firework Eye Safety Month, it is important to remember that even small fireworks can cause major harm in just a few seconds. According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, thousands of people are treated for firework-related injuries every year, and many of those injuries involve the eyes.

Did you know sparklers can burn at temperatures close to 2,000°F? That is hot enough to melt metal and cause severe burns or permanent vision damage. Eye injuries from fireworks can include burns, cuts, detached retinas, ruptured eyeballs, and even blindness.

The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a professional public display instead of using fireworks at home. If you are around fireworks, keep a safe distance, supervise children closely, and never point fireworks toward another person. Protective eyewear can also help reduce the risk of serious injury.

If you or someone you know experiences an eye injury from fireworks, seek medical care immediately.

Your eyesight is something you only get once. Taking a few extra safety precautions can help keep summer celebrations fun and injury free!

Sometimes the most important part of healthcare is knowing someone is in your corner.

One patient in our Ryan White Program came to us feeling overwhelmed, isolated, and unsure where to turn. With consistent support, access to care, and compassionate guidance, things slowly began to change.

Today, they’re feeling hopeful about the future again.

Stories like this remind us that healthcare is about more than appointments and medication — it’s about helping people feel supported, respected, and seen.

What does feeling supported in healthcare mean to you?
