This fall, The Giving Cypress Foundation and Wild Cypress will host our very first Families in Nature Day Retreat — a first-year pilot program for families with Deaf and hard-of-hearing children.
Families in Nature was created because we believe children and families need:
🌿 more time outdoors,
🌿more opportunities to slow down,
🌿and more spaces where they can feel connected and supported.
Many Deaf and hard-of-hearing children are often the only one in their mainstream school, neighborhood, or community. This retreat is designed to bring them together — through nature, sign language, Deaf culture, family connection, and shared outdoor experiences.
For me, this is personal.
I know what it feels like to be isolated in the mainstream, and I remember how powerful it was to meet other kids like me at family retreats and camps.
That feeling of connection and belonging is what we hope to create through Families in Nature.
Please share this video with families who have Deaf or hard-of-hearing children, especially those who are the only Deaf child in their schools.
