**From May**

The number of suspected cases of Ebola has risen to 29 from nine in less than a week in an isolated part of Democratic Republic of Congo, where three people have died from the disease since April 22, the World Health Organization said on Thursday.

The W.H.O. was criticized for responding too slowly to an outbreak in West Africa in 2014 that left more than 11,000 people dead, and Dr. Peter Salama, the executive director of the organization’s health emergencies program, said at a briefing that it was essential to “never, ever underestimate Ebola” and to “make sure we have a no-regrets approach to this outbreak.”

In Guinea, a Hard-Won‘Victory’ Over Ebola

New York Times

The World Health Organizationannounced Tuesday morning that Guineawas free of Ebola virus transmission for the first time since the epidemic was detected there in March 2014.

All three of the West African countries hardest hit by the epidemic — Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone — have now documented stopping the original chain of infections that experts believe began in December 2013 with the undiagnosedillness of a young boy, Emile, in the village of Meliandou in Guinea’s forest region.

“This is a very big victory for the nation and the people of Guinea,” said Fode Tass Sylla, a spokesman for the country’s Ebolatask force. He thanked other countries, the health organization and private charities for their support.

Two 21-day incubation cycles of the virus have passed since the last person in Guinea with the illness, a 3-week-old girl, twice tested negative for the virus. The country now enters a three-month period of heightened surveillance during which the virus could re-emerge, as it has donetwice in neighboring Liberia after that country ended transmission. (In mid-January, human-to-human transmission linked to those cases could be declared ended.)

The CDPHE conducted an Ebola test on the patient at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland. Then the patient was moved to University of Colorado Hospital out of an abundance of caution. They will continue to provide care to the patient to determine whether additional testing is needed.

A specially equipped ambulance took the patient to the hospital Wednesday evening after becoming ill. The patient had recently traveled to an Ebola-affected country.
The CDPHE said the patient was considered to be at low risk of infection with the Ebola virus. The person was placed in an isolated and secure area away from other patients and staff at the Medical Center of the Rockies.
"We've trained for many months to safely respond to a possible Ebola patient, and our protocols call for transporting the patient to UCH when possible to safely continue evaluation and treatment, Bill Neff, MD, UCHealth chief medical officer, said.
Symptoms may appear anywhere between two to 21 days after exposure and include a fever, muscle pain, weakness, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain and lack of appetite.
CDPHE wants to remind everyone that Ebola is spread through direct contact with blood and body fluids of a person already showing symptoms of Ebola.
Ebola is not spread through the air, water, food, or mosquitoes.
The identity of the patient has not been released.
