How can a prism move an image and keep it sharp?
Bending light doesnât automatically blur it. What matters is whether light from each point in the scene can still come together at a distinct point in the image.
A prism changes the direction light travels. Light bends as it enters and leaves the prism, and the angle between its surfaces gives that light a new direction.
Your brain interprets the incoming light as though it traveled straight toward you. So the object appears to have moved, even though it hasnât.
But the light hasnât simply been scattered. Itâs been redirected in an orderly way, allowing your eye to keep the details in focus. A change in position doesnât have to mean a loss of sharpness.
And this connects to something familiar: your glasses.
Think of a curved lens as a series of tiny prisms, each bending light a little differently. Together, those changes bring light closer together or spread it apart, helping your eye focus the scene onto the retina.
Thatâs how a clear piece of material can change what you see: its shape controls where the light goes.
At Master Eye Associates, refining your prescription means finding the right amount of that bending for your eyes.
