π€πΈ HAPPY BLACK GIRL DAY OFF! πΈπ€
Today, October 11, is a reminder to Black women everywhere that you deserve rest, too. β¨
So often, Black women are expected to be strong, dependable, resilient, nurturing, and everything to everyone. We show up for our families, our careers, our communities, and the people we love. But in the middle of caring for everyone else, how often do we give ourselves permission to simply be?
Sis, you donβt have to earn your rest. You donβt have to reach burnout before you slow down. And you donβt have to carry everything just because youβve always been able to.
Today, I encourage you to:
πΏ Put down the to-do list, even if only for a little while.
πΏ Say no without feeling obligated to explain yourself.
πΏ Give yourself permission to receive support instead of always being the strong one.
πΏ Make room for joy, laughter, stillness, and the things that bring YOU peace.
πΏ Check in with your emotional well-being, not just everyone elseβs.
πΏ Remember that asking for help is an act of strength, not weakness.
As a trauma therapist, I want to remind you that resilience should never mean having to endure everything without support. You can be strong and still be tired. You can be accomplished and still need help. You can love your people deeply and still need time for yourself.
Rest is not laziness. Boundaries are not selfishness. Your worth is not measured by how much you accomplish or how much you sacrifice for others.
Today, letβs celebrate Black women not only for what we do, but for who we areβour brilliance, our softness, our creativity, our vulnerability, our joy, and our humanity.
And if all you do today is take a deep breath, put your phone down, enjoy a quiet moment, or give yourself a little grace, let that be enough. π
You are seen. You are valued. You deserve rest. You deserve care. You deserve to thrive.
