Scotland County Hospital is a not-for-profit district hospital in operation since 1970. This mission is inclusive of the uninsured and underinsured.

Scotland County Hospital and rural health clinics are dedicated to more than just providing emergent medical care. We are dedicated to providing services to help prevent major medical conditions from occurring. SCH does this by following our mission "to improve the health of our communities, with services closer to home". Our way of improving healthcare in the communities we serve includes partnering with many medical facilities to ensure services are obtainable close to home. SCH has continually demonstrated a deep commitment to this rural and remote geographic area we serve, in which we are the only hospital in a five (5) county area of extreme Northeast Missouri (five county approximate population of 21,000). PHILOSOPHY - Scotland County Hospital, as a district hospital, believes that comprehensive primary health care can effectively be delivered on a local basis, easing stress on the patient and families by placing them in a familiar surrounding and with people they know. Supervisors from different clinical departments have been making appearances at area college career fairs this fall in hopes of identifying new graduate nurses and other healthcare program graduates (Lab, Respiratory, Radiology, etc.). It’s a great way to meet dozens of active candidates in a single day and connect with students months before they graduate.

The Scotland County Hospital Med Club sponsored programs in area school districts are off to an amazing start this school year. Here are a few pictures from recent Med Club meetings this fall. Med Club meetings & field trips are designed to increase emphasis on math and science, stressing their importance in preparation and pursuit of healthcare careers. Additionally, students that have the opportunity to observe healthcare professionals in the hospital & clinics, learn about the fastest growing careers in the healthcare field and get hands on experiences in a wide variety of healthcare related professions.

When a cancer patient rings the bell, it warms our hearts. When that cancer patient is one of our own, it hits home in a way words can barely describe. 🔔🩷

Today, we are bursting with joy and deep emotion as we celebrate one of our very own Scotland County Hospital nurses ringing the cancer victory bell!

Day in and day out, our nursing staff pours their hearts into caring for this community. But when the table turns, this incredible nurse faced her own battle with the exact same grit, grace, and resilience she has shown her patients.

To watch a caregiver become the survivor—and to stand beside her as she rang the bell of triumph—is a moment none of us will ever forget.
