Sometimes the best conversation is realizing how often we talk ourselves out of opportunities before anyone else gets the chance.

Fear sounds logical. Self-doubt sounds responsible. Procrastination sounds like “waiting for the right time.”

But if your habits keep moving you farther from the life you say you want, it may be time to stop asking who’s against you… and start asking what’s keeping you from betting on yourself.

Growth starts with honesty.

Maybe the problem isn’t that it got harder. Maybe we were wrong to expect progress to feel easier.

Which will it be? 🤔

The Howard University conversation reminded me of a leadership dilemma I’ve wrestled with for years as an adjunct professor and administrator.

It’s easy to judge a decision one person at a time.

It’s much harder when you’re responsible for making a decision that has to be fair to everyone.

This isn’t really about Howard.

It’s about one of the hardest questions every leader eventually faces:

How do you make room for humanity without making fairness depend on who’s asking?

I’m not here to tell you what to think.

I’m here to help you think through the complexity.

I don’t believe this generation is “soft.”

I think many have learned to recognize emotions before they were taught how to regulate them.

There’s a difference.

Emotional awareness helps you understand what you’re feeling.

Distress tolerance helps you keep moving even when those feelings are uncomfortable.

We need both.

Just don’t quit..

You’ve been apologizing before you even finish the sentence. Stop.

You think you left the toxic.. but what if it actually followed you to your next job?

As more information continues to emerge surrounding the tragic death of Nolen Wells, my goal isn’t to speculate about what happened.

It’s to explore what moments like this can teach us about human behavior.

Today, we’re talking about the psychology behind assuming someone else will step in—and why understanding our own thinking matters.

My prayers remain with Nolen’s family, friends, teammates, and everyone grieving this unimaginable loss.

Be great humans and be the change.

We’ve been taught to celebrate ambition.

But very few people teach us how to recognize when ambition quietly becomes a moving finish line.

There’s nothing wrong with chasing goals.

The question is…

Are your goals adding to your life, or are they keeping you from experiencing the one you’re already living?
