📸✨ Looking Back on a Great Semester ✨📸

As the semester comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the moments that made it memorable—hours spent in the classroom and lab, simulation experiences, clinical skills training, service opportunities, professional events, and plenty of laughter along the way.

These photos capture just a small glimpse of the hard work, growth, friendships, and experiences that have shaped our students throughout the semester. We are incredibly proud of everything they have accomplished and grateful for the faculty, staff, alumni, and clinical partners who support them every step of the way.

Here’s to a semester of learning, growth, and momentum—and to all that lies ahead.

🏥 As the Semester Winds Down…

We want to take a moment to thank our incredible clinical partners for the time, mentorship, and dedication they continue to invest in our students.

From acute care and inpatient rehabilitation to outpatient orthopedics, pediatrics, sports, and beyond, our students are shaped by clinicians who generously share their knowledge, model compassionate care, and help bridge the gap between the classroom and clinical practice.

The impact of clinical education extends far beyond a single semester, and we are deeply grateful for the relationships and partnerships that help prepare the next generation of physical therapists.

Thank you for all that you do for UTHSC Physical Therapy and for our students. 👏

🚨🏥 From our DPT1s during simulation last week…

Last week, our DPT1 students stepped into a high-pressure simulation experience designed to challenge their communication, clinical decision-making, teamwork, and ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Simulation experiences like these provide students with the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in realistic clinical scenarios while learning how to adapt, problem-solve, and respond under pressure. While stressful in the moment, these experiences are invaluable in helping build confidence and clinical readiness.

Great work by our DPT1s for stepping up to the challenge and continuing to grow as future clinicians. 💪

🇺🇸 Memorial Day 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice, courage, and dedication will never be forgotten.

As we spend time with family, friends, and community this Memorial Day, we are grateful for those who made these moments possible through their service and sacrifice.

From all of us at UTHSC Physical Therapy, we remember and honor them today and always. ❤️🤍💙

🥎🔥 DPT1 vs. DPT2 Softball Showdown 🔥🥎

Last week, our DPT students traded the classroom for the softball field for the annual DPT1 vs. DPT2 softball game — and after a competitive matchup, the DPT1s came away with the win!

From big hits to great catches (and a few swings that probably looked better in everyone’s head 😄), the game was a fun reminder of the camaraderie and community that make UTHSC DPT special.

A special shoutout to Dr. Joe Graves, who was there supporting the students and cheering on the teams throughout the game. We love seeing faculty show up for moments like these that bring our program together outside the classroom and clinic.

Congratulations to the DPT1s on the victory… and DPT2s, there’s always next year 👀🏆

🌷🎓 A Meaningful Afternoon at the Patterson Distinguished Lecture

Last weekend, we had the privilege of hosting the Dr. Ray & Linda Patterson Distinguished Lecture at the Memphis Botanic Garden, featuring keynote speaker Barbara H. Connolly, PT, DPT, EdD, FAPTA.

Dr. Connolly’s lecture, “Plant a Seed: Grow a Tree,” encouraged reflection on growth, mentorship, and the lasting impact physical therapists can have throughout their careers and communities.

This photo features Dr. Connolly alongside our current Department Chair and Program Director, Dr. Barry Dale, representing a shared commitment to leadership, education, and the continued advancement of the profession.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this inspiring event!

On May 16, UTHSC Physical Therapy Professor, Chair, and Program Director Barry Dale participated in a Health and Wellness Fair at St. John's Missionary Baptist in North Memphis, organized by the Shelby County Health Department in collaboration with the Shelby County Medical Reserve Corp. During the event, he met a remarkable individual named Steve, who at 67 years of age seems to have discovered the secret to youthful living that we as physical therapists advocate: a commitment to lifelong exercise, particularly emphasizing resistance training. Keep up the great work, Steve!
