In some cases, pain, tingling, numbness, or weakness that travels down the arm and into the hand may be related to a nerve being compressed in the neck.
Understanding where your symptoms are coming from is the first step toward finding the right treatment.

Arm pain isn't always coming from your arm.

Pain, numbness, tingling, or burning that travels from your shoulder down to your fingers can be caused by a variety of conditions, including a compressed nerve in the neck, a herniated disc, carpal tunnel syndrome, or other nerve-related issues.

Because there are several possible causes, identifying the source of the problem is the first step toward effective treatment.

If your arm pain:
• Lasts more than a few days
• Keeps coming back
• Includes numbness, tingling, or weakness
• Isn't improving with over-the-counter medication

It may be time for an evaluation.

Getting the right diagnosis early can help prevent worsening symptoms and get you back to the activities you enjoy.

We are proud to celebrate Dr. Michael as he concludes his term as President of the Society of University Neurosurgeons (SUN) following a successful annual meeting in Lima, Peru.

According to Dr. Michael, "The Society of University Neurosurgeons is more than an organization. It is a community built on friendship, mentorship, shared experiences, and a responsibility to those who will follow us. There is no doubt in my mind that our SUN community represents the very best that neurosurgery has to offer."

We are proud to have physicians whose leadership extends beyond the operating room, helping advance the field of neurosurgery through education, collaboration, and mentorship. Congratulations, Dr. Michael, on your exceptional leadership.

"When I started in 2010, the approach to Alzheimer's was largely about managing symptoms and helping families cope," says Dr. Baughman.

"What's changed is that we now think about Alzheimer's care much more comprehensively. Yes, there are exciting new disease-modifying medications, but what's become increasingly clear is that medication alone isn't the whole answer."

When children face both brain tumors and epilepsy, many families are told there are no safe treatment options left.

At Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, Drs. Nir Shimony and Paul Klimo are helping change that narrative.

Working within a highly collaborative team, they partner with specialists across neurology, neuroradiology, and more to take on some of the most complex pediatric cases, using advanced imaging, precision-guided surgery, and a transparent, family-centered approach.

For many families who were told to live with seizures, this work is creating new possibilities and meaningful outcomes.

Advancing Stroke Care at

Dr. Nitin Goyal joined experts from across the country at the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery Annual Meeting to discuss the evolving treatment of distal acute ischemic stroke.

During a Penumbra scientific symposium, Dr. Goyal presented on the FORWARD Study, an international, prospective clinical study evaluating mechanical thrombectomy for patients with distal stroke occlusions. As co-principal investigator, he shared how ongoing research may help expand treatment options and improve outcomes for patients with acute ischemic stroke. The FORWARD study will enroll up to 250 patients across approximately 40 centers to evaluate newer thrombectomy technologies designed for these challenging strokes.

We are proud to see our physicians helping shape the future of stroke care through research, innovation, and collaboration. Learn more about FORWARD: https://bit.ly/4yQ4wG6
