This mother felt her daughter move before she ever saw her face.

She heard her first cry.

Watched her take her first steps.

Held her through the moments when she needed comfort.

Watched her become more and more herself with every passing year.

And somewhere along the way, motherhood stopped being something she simply did.

It became part of who she was.

Her daughter was woven into her days.

Into her thoughts.

Into her hopes for the future.

Into the ordinary rhythm of life.

So losing her was never going to mean simply losing someone she loved.

It meant learning how to exist in a world that suddenly felt unfamiliar.

A world where the person she had spent years protecting could no longer be reached.

A world where the mother in her still wants to care for a daughter she cannot physically hold.

That is one of the hardest parts.

A mother's love does not retire when her child is gone.

The instinct remains.

The tenderness remains.

The need to protect remains.

There are still moments when this mother wishes she could somehow reach her daughter and make sure she is okay.

Because that is what mothers do.

They worry.

They love.

They protect.

And even now, this mother's heart is still doing exactly that.

Still loving her.

Still holding her.

Still being her mother.

Some mothers carry photographs. Some carry stories. I carry both like treasures.

I used to simply be her mother. I got to hear her voice, worry about her, laugh with her, and watch her life unfold right in front of me.

Now I have another role.

I am the keeper of her story.

So I speak her name. I remember the tiny details. I tell people what made her wonderful. I refuse to let the missing become bigger than the beautiful life that came before it.

My daughter gave me a story worth telling forever.

And as long as I am here, she will have a mother proudly telling it.
