On Friday, The Alliance Foundation brought the nexAir STEM Ice Cream Lab to our Whitney campus in Frayser.

nexAir's STEM volunteers made ice cream with liquid nitrogen, explained the science behind it, and talked with kids about their own careers: handling industrial gases, designing the equipment that stores and moves them, keeping hospitals, food plants, and manufacturers supplied. Real jobs, here in Memphis.

Thank you to nexAir for sending a team out on a Friday afternoon, and to The Alliance Foundation for putting it together.

You can find us at two Back to School events this Saturday, August 1:

📍 Back to School Bash with Rich Off Education
Marquette Park, 4946 Alrose Ave, starting at 9 a.m.

📍 MSCS Back to School Block Party
Memphis Sports and Event Center, 995 Early Maxwell Blvd, starting at 10 a.m.

Stop by our table, say hello, and grab free resources for your family.

We were glad to join Regional One Health at their Back-to-School Community Fair earlier this month, too. Our school-based team met a lot of great families.

One more thing worth knowing before the first bell. Our Children & Youth Crisis Wellness Center is open. It is a place where young people ages 4 to 17 can get help during a mental health crisis, right here in Memphis. That option did not exist for students last school year. If your child needs help this year, help is close to home.

🎒 School starts Monday. If your child seems off this week, where do you even start?

Dr. Marissa Gray of the University of Memphis answered that on WMC Action News 5, and her first piece of advice was not “find a therapist.” It was: start with the people who see your child every day. Their teacher. Their school counselor.

She also pointed families to Alliance, including the support we provide inside Shelby County schools. Nobody asked her to. đź’™

Tennessee just launched the Family Empowerment Initiative: 90 days of in-home support for families after a child's behavioral health crisis. Weekly visits, coping and communication skills, a plan the family builds. Free, with no insurance billed. Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services

The state is utilizing Memphis-based Youth Villages, which serves 84 of the state's 95 counties.

Stabilizing a crisis is a beginning, not an ending. Follow-up care is where trust gets rebuilt. Good to see Tennessee investing there.

The State of Tennessee has partnered with Youth Villages to provide support for families after a mental or behavioral health crisis.

We were honored to open the doors of our Crisis Wellness Center to the Memphis Police Department’s Clergy Collaborative.

Born from Chief Davis’s vision, the Clergy Collaborative is building a model of public safety rooted in empathy, healing, and faith. Under the leadership of Retired Colonel and Pastor James E. Kirkwood, MPD’s Community Outreach Programs Manager, it unites pastors, chaplains, and faith leaders across Memphis to serve as trusted messengers of peace, hope, and restoration in the neighborhoods that need it most.

Standing with these community leaders, our CEO Laurie Powell reminded everyone that healing happens in community. When faith, public safety, and behavioral health care work together, our neighbors are the ones who benefit.

Thank you to Pastor Kirkwood and every faith leader who joined us. We are proud to walk this road with you. 🤝

After 26 years and 8 months with Alliance Healthcare Services, Loretta Rhodes is retiring, and her team at 2100 Whitney made sure she knew just how much she'll be missed.

Ms. Loretta spent her career with Alliance's Planned Respite program, supporting families and caregivers through some of their hardest days. Her employee, Karl Woods, surprised her with a plaque recognizing her as the exceptional supervisor she's always been.

Congratulations, Ms. Loretta. Thank you for nearly three decades of caring leadership and service to Shelby County families.

A reminder of something we see every day at Alliance: people rarely struggle with just one thing. Trauma and substance use are deeply connected. Recovery works best when care addresses both at once.

If you or someone you love is navigating PTSD, alcohol use, or both, you don't have to choose which one to treat first. Learn about our programs: https://www.alliance-hs.org/program/addiction-recovery
