👂 ASK THE AUDIOLOGIST

"When should I get my hearing checked?"

Hearing loss doesn't always happen suddenly. Sometimes the signs are subtle—and easy to overlook.

It may be time for a hearing evaluation if you:

• Frequently ask people to repeat themselves
• Have trouble following conversations in noisy places
• Find yourself turning up the TV more than others
• Have difficulty hearing on the phone
• Notice ringing or buzzing in your ears
• Feel like people are mumbling

You don't have to wait until hearing loss interferes with your everyday life to have your hearing evaluated.

If you've noticed a change, we're here to help.

🔊 It's Not Just About How Loud. It's Also About How Long.

A lawnmower. A concert. Power tools. Headphones.

We encounter loud sounds all the time—and repeated or prolonged exposure can put your hearing at risk.

The impact of noise depends on both how loud the sound is and how long you're exposed to it.

A few simple ways to protect your hearing:

🔉 Turn the volume down
🚶 Move away from loud noise when you can
⏸️ Take breaks from noisy environments
👂 Use appropriate hearing protection

A simple rule of thumb: if you have to shout to be heard, the sound may be too loud.

Your future self will thank you for protecting your hearing today.

MYTH:
"Snoring is just an annoying sleep habit."

FACT:
Frequent or loud snoring can sometimes be a sign of an underlying breathing problem, including sleep apnea.

When the airway becomes partially obstructed during sleep, the tissues in the throat can vibrate and produce the sound we know as snoring.

Pay attention if snoring is:

➡️ Loud or frequent
➡️ Happening in every sleeping position
➡️ Accompanied by gasping or pauses in breathing
➡️ Affecting sleep quality or daytime energy

If you or your child is a persistent, heavy snorer, an ENT evaluation can help determine what's causing it and whether treatment may be appropriate.

Better sleep starts with better breathing.

Is Your Child Snoring?

An occasional snore may not be cause for concern. But if your child snores loudly or frequently, it may be worth taking a closer look.

Snoring in children can sometimes be associated with enlarged tonsils or adenoids, which can interfere with normal breathing during sleep.

Other signs to watch for include:

• Noisy or difficult breathing at night
• Poor sleeping patterns
• Mouth breathing
• Chronic sore throat or recurrent infections
• Daytime fatigue or difficulty concentrating

If your child's snoring is frequent or disruptive, talk with their pediatrician or an ENT specialist about whether an evaluation is appropriate.

Healthy sleep matters. ❤️

Fall Allergies Are Here

If you find yourself reaching for tissues, dealing with a stuffy nose, or constantly clearing your throat as the seasons change, allergies may be to blame.

Common symptoms of seasonal allergies include:

👃 Sneezing and nasal congestion
💧 Runny nose or postnasal drip
👀 Itchy or watery eyes
😴 Fatigue or "brain fog"
😮‍💨 Cough or scratchy throat

And in Memphis, seasonal allergies can be especially persistent.

If allergy symptoms are interfering with your daily life or you're not finding relief, it may be time to identify what's triggering them. ENT Memphis offers allergy evaluation and testing to help patients better understand and manage their symptoms.
