🐾 Interesting Case Report of the Week: Pyometra 🚨

Yesterday, our team diagnosed a sweet female labrador with pyometra, a potentially life-threatening uterine infection. She came in to see us for vomiting, lethargy, and did not have a fever.

Upon physical examination, Dr. Stalpes found her belly to be significantly swollen. X-ray imaging (see below) confirmed our suspected diagnosis of Pyometra. A normal, healthy uterus is typically not visible on a routine X-ray. The area outlined in red highlights the significantly enlarged uterus.

Pyometra is a serious uterine infection that most commonly affects unspayed female dogs. It occurs when the uterus fills with infected fluid and can quickly become life-threatening without prompt treatment.

Today, Dr. Lilly successfully removed the infected uterus and this sweet pup is now on her way to a full recovery.

This case is a great reminder of how important diagnostic imaging and timely veterinary care are in identifying serious conditions and helping pets get the treatment they need!❤️

We know that when your pet isn’t feeling well, you don’t want to wait days to get them seen. That’s why we make every effort to get sick pets in as soon as possible — and we do not charge an extra fee for same-day sick appointments!

If something seems off with your fur baby, don’t hesitate to give us a call! We’ll do our best to get them in, checked out, and back to feeling like themselves as soon as possible.

What a cool experience for all of us this Friday morning! We had MVCT Mobile Veterinary CT of MN come to us with their mobile CT scan to get a closer look on one of our sweet canine patients, Emma. We all learned a lot and look forward to our next visit with them!

🐾 September is Pet Pain Awareness Month 🐾

Did you know pets (especially cats!) are quite good at hiding pain? They may not alway whimper/cry, limp, etc. so it is important to notice the subtle changes in their behavior.

Keep an eye out for subtle behavioral changes such as:
- Sleeping more or hiding
- Stiffness or reluctance to jump
- Changes in grooming
- Changes in appetite
- Irritability or avoiding touch
- Changes in bathroom habits
- Simply acting a little “off”

Just knowing what your pet's own "normal" is so important! Even small changes can be a sign that something isn’t right. ❤️
