My name is Keely Behning, and I am a physical therapist with over 20 years of experience helping people move better and live pain-free! I specialize in racquet sports injury prevention, rehabilitation and sports optimization. I am a board-certified sports clinical specialist, a physical therapist, and a certified athletic trainer. Pickleball is more than just hitting balls…

At Elite Pickleball Training, we work on the physical skills that help you move better, react faster, and stay healthier on the court.

This session included:
• Hand-eye coordination drills
• Plyometric training for power and quickness
• Stability and balance work
• Deceleration training to improve control and reduce injury risk

A lot of injuries in pickleball happen because the body cannot efficiently absorb force, control rotation, or react quickly enough during unpredictable movements. Training these qualities matters.

Exercise of the month: sidelying plank with hip abduction.

This one targets your core, shoulder stability, and glute med—key for lumbopelvic control.

Start with your bottom knee bent and your top leg straight. Stack your shoulders and hips.

Lift your hips into a plank, then raise your top leg slightly out and back.

That ‘back’ direction matters—if your leg comes forward or your pelvis rolls back, you’ll use more TFL instead of glute med.

To make it harder, straighten the bottom leg and hold the full plank.

Focus on control, not height

Do you feel tight no matter how much you stretch? This is where dry needling can help.

In this case, we addressed multiple muscles contributing to her symptoms—hip flexors, lateral hip, deep glutes, and QL.

She came in with a tight hip flexor and QL that wasn’t improving with stretching alone. It was affecting her sleep and even her overall mood. She also felt like her lower back might “go out.”

After treatment, she had an instant release, and by the next day her tightness was completely gone.

Sometimes “tightness” isn’t something you can stretch away. It’s often deeper muscle dysfunction that needs a different approach.

Dry needling can help reset that.

Two years ago today, I took a leap and opened Superior Physical Therapy.

What started as a vision to spend more time with my patients and deliver care the way I believe it should be… has grown into so much more.

From building a brand rooted in my Duluth roots, to finding a home at The Heights Racquet and Social Club… to the friends who supported me early on and helped me get things off the ground.

165 social media posts later, I’ve learned a lot about showing up and staying consistent.

Along the way, I stepped into the pickleball world, sponsoring tournaments, teams, working events, and even playing on one myself. That led to incredible opportunities, including working with Mota Alhouni and other athletes on performance, injury prevention, and training.

As things grew, I brought on Rosa Ham, expanded into new services like Pilates reformer and shockwave, and even had the opportunity to do a medical mission in the Philippines.

Grateful for everyone who has supported me along the way.

Two years in… and just getting started.

“Are you limiting how often you play because of your knee?”

Most pickleball players I see complaining of knee pain on the court have often already tried:
• Resting (and losing court time)
• Ice and anti-inflammatories
• Knee braces or straps
• Stretching and foam rolling
• Injections

And they are still dealing with:
• Pain below the kneecap
• Stiffness during or after playing
• Swelling or clicking
• A knee that just doesn’t feel as strong or reliable

So what happens?

You start limiting how often you play…
Or how many games you get in…
Or you push through and end up limping around after.

And even when you are playing…
You’re not moving the same.

You’re not bending your knees as much
You’re not moving your feet
You hesitate instead of reacting to lobs

And suddenly… you’re not playing like yourself.

That’s the frustrating part.
Because it’s not just physical anymore… it starts affecting your confidence and how much you enjoy the game.

In this video I’m showing 3 versions of the Pilates Swan: on the mat, on the reformer, and a way to mimic it at home. While they may look similar, each one challenges your body a little differently.

The biggest difference? On the reformer, we can adjust resistance throughout the movement and guide your body so you’re not defaulting to your “stronger” muscles. Most people naturally compensate by using what’s easiest or strongest… but that’s often not what they actually need.

Because let’s be honest… your body will always choose the path of least resistance if it can.

In a one-on-one session, I’m watching closely for those patterns and helping you move where you should, not just where it’s easiest. That’s how we improve both strength and mobility—and ultimately get better, more lasting results.
