👉 Years ago, when Carrie Kruetzer was a college student pursuing a degree in Special Education, she lived in a campus house where all of her roommates communicated exclusively in American Sign Language.

The ASL skills she honed back then are now benefitting deaf participants in Dungarvin Colorado’s Community Connections Day Program!

👉 Dungarvin and other advocates for people with disabilities are concerned about the new Medicaid work requirements going into effect next year.

In fact, 25 states and Washington D.C. are suing the federal government over these new rules.

“My concern is that someone could still be eligible for Medicaid but lose coverage because they missed a notice, did not understand what was being asked of them or had trouble completing the required paperwork,” said Robert Bachicha, Dungarvin Vice President of Operations.

📢 News Alert: The Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) legislation passed unanimously through Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs committee late last week!

What does this mean? Passing the “Recognizing the Role of Direct Support Professionals Act” (S. 3211) marks a major step forward for legislation to establish a distinct Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) for DSPs.Such a classification is necessary to continue to build understanding and acceptance for the life-changing careers of DSPs everywhere.

Please use ANCOR’s “Action Alert” to continue to send a pre-written message to members of Congress that this bill is a priority for addressing the workforce crisis and sustaining the services that Dungarvin (and other providers) bring to members of our families and other loved ones.

Meet Carlos Hinojosa, Dungarvin Connecticut’s Employee of the Month! 🤝

Anonymous votes are cast for coworkers based on outstanding qualities and meaningful contributions. The selected staff member receives a certificate of recognition and a gift card, presented during the monthly management meeting, where managers and State Director Robert Gallant (pictured) have the opportunity to celebrate the employee’s dedication and contributions.

Carlos was nominated for the care he demonstrates for those he supports. His attentiveness, advocacy, and dedication extend far beyond his job description.

Thank you for being a wonderful example of the way we respect and respond to the choices of those in need of supports, Carlos!

☀️ Participants in Dungarvin’s Adult Day Services in Seymour, Indiana, were treated to an exciting break from the heat during a recent summer cookout.

“We spent time outside enjoying sprinklers, bubbles and friends,” said Dungarvin Indiana Area Manager Montana Wheeler. “We had music playing and there were lots of smiles and laughter.”

They also enjoyed great food, including hamburgers on the grill, baked beans, deviled eggs and watermelon. Montana said she and her team continuously look for ways to bring joy and new activities to the Day Program group.

Way to go, Indiana team — sounds like your plans made a big splash!
