Silicon Valley Marriage Counseling

Silicon Valley Marriage Counseling Helping couples and individuals build stronger, healthier relationships. Azizeh Rezaiyan has been a licensed Marriage Family Therapist for three decades.

Azizeh Rezaiyan, LMFT, offers compassionate counseling for marriage, intimacy, and life transitions in Palo Alto and Portland. She studied at the Phillips Graduate Institute of Psychology. Upon graduation, she spent another five years studying at the Integrated Body Psychotherapy (IBP) Institute in Southern California and the Esalen Institute at Big Sur, where she focused on couples therapy, marriage counseling, sexuality and infidelity. She has also studied in several other countries, including Switzerland and Germany. With offices in Palo Alto, she offers a multi-cultural view in her warm, empathic and interactive approach as a trained Psychotherapist with couples. Azizeh believes that couple relationship is one of the most challenging, yet inspiring and enriching relations. When conflict is dealt with using constructive communication, it enhances awareness, compassion and gratitude in both partners. When working with couples, she first explores the underlying dynamics and then helps participants understand and undo the early injuries that form the base of their communication difficulties, fights, infidelity, sexual boredom, emotional distance and even parenting issues. In her work with couples, Azizeh focuses on their level of communion, or bond, and helps them set healthy boundaries that lead to a healthy sense of self for each partner. Healthy boundaries lead to greater awareness of one’s inner life; improve their dynamics with not only their partner but also with others; enrich our communication; and expand the level of creativity to face life’s challenges. Her work with couples can be a joyous and fulfilling journey that transforms each partner, leading them to achieve greater intimacy, romance and sexuality in their relationship.

Sometimes when a partner shares something difficult, we hear the words and react immediately, missing the deeper feeling or need they were trying to express beneath the surface. This happens often; a comment about chores might not be about the task itself, but about feeling unseen or unappreciated. Our initial impulse is often to defend ourselves or correct a perceived inaccuracy.

A partner might stop engaging with shared joys or become irritable, and we might see this as normal stress, missing what could be an underlying depression.

Sometimes depression does not look like deep sadness. Instead, you might notice subtle shifts: changes in sleep patterns, either sleeping much more or struggling with insomnia. There might be a general slowing down or difficulty concentrating on tasks they used to manage easily. A partner might also seem more sensitive to criticism, or express feelings of worthlessness, even if they quickly dismiss these thoughts.

These signs are often easy to overlook, appearing as common reactions to daily pressures. When communication strains or a distance grows, it may be time to explore what is happening beneath the surface. I help couples understand these dynamics and find ways to support each other with empathy. We can explore how to navigate these challenges together.

If you've ever felt like you and your partner are speaking two different languages, you're not alone. That disconnect is one of the most common things couples bring into therapy, and it's also one of the most repairable.

I work with couples using evidence-based approaches, Gottman and EFT, to help rebuild connection in a way that's grounded in real research, not one-size-fits-all advice.

A free 20-minute consult is the easiest way to see if this could help. No pressure, just a conversation.

When partners in an age gap relationship look ahead to their shared future, they often discover different timelines or cultural expectations that can shift their daily experience.

These unspoken assumptions about life stages, family roles, or even how legacies are built can quietly shape everyday interactions. I have seen how partners from different generations might also carry distinct cultural frameworks about commitment or family, especially when one or both have roots in different countries. My own experience living in various cultures has shown me the rich complexity this brings.

We may come from diverse backgrounds, each with unique expectations for what a relationship should look like. Exploring these differences openly can help couples understand each other more deeply. It is about gently uncovering those varied assumptions and finding common ground, fostering greater empathy and connection.

When the pressures of demanding careers weigh heavily, conversations about intimate health like erectile dysfunction can feel like another performance review, making connection even harder. I know how challenging these moments are for both partners. It is natural to feel a mix of emotions, from frustration and sadness to anxiety and embarrassment. Sometimes, we might avoid the topic entirely, hoping it will resolve on its own, but silence often creates more distance and unspoken worries.

Opening this conversation is an opportunity to lean into vulnerability together. Instead of focusing on the dysfunction itself, try to share what you are experiencing and feeling.

For the partner initiating, this might mean expressing fears about disappointing or losing intimacy. For the partner listening, it involves offering presence and reassurance, understanding that this is a shared experience.

Lets talk.

When you and your partner come from different backgrounds, navigating big life changes can feel like trying to speak two languages at once. Our core values, often shaped by our upbringing and cultures, become the silent frameworks through which we view everything.

These deep seated frameworks can sometimes feel like they are clashing when couples face new challenges, whether it is career shifts, family growth, or evolving personal paths. I often see couples struggling to find common ground when their inherited ways of seeing the world diverge.

My experience living across four countries has shown me firsthand how rich and complex these differences can be. I understand that the desire to honor where you come from while building a shared future is a powerful force.

In our sessions, we can explore these unique perspectives, helping you both translate needs and hopes across cultural or personal divides. We can create a space where your individual values strengthen your connection, rather than becoming a source of misunderstanding.

Often, one person feels the weight of relationship challenges acutely, seeing therapy as a path forward, while their partner remains unsure or even resistant. This is a common situation, creating emotions from frustration to feeling alone in the effort.

Perhaps one partner worries therapy means assigning blame or making things worse. These concerns are understandable. My work frequently involves helping individuals navigate these complex dynamics.

When only one partner is ready, we can explore individual experiences within the relationship. We focus on understanding personal patterns and communication styles. This individual insight can become a powerful force for change.

Sometimes, as one person shifts their perspective, it naturally creates space for new interactions. This might invite the other partner to consider therapy. The journey often begins with just one step.

I have spent over 30 years helping couples explore pathways to deeper understanding. Even when the process begins with just one partner, there are many opportunities to cultivate meaningful change together. If this feels like where you are right now, book a 20 minute consultation to talk through your specific situation.

The constant demands of high pressure roles can make it feel like your relationship is running on fumes, even when you are physically together. This kind of professional intensity often means mental energy is consumed by complex challenges and deadlines throughout the day. It can be hard to switch gears at home, leaving little bandwidth for the emotional nuances and tender moments that keep a partnership thriving. I often see couples grappling with these unique pressures.

In our work together, we create a dedicated space to explore how external stressors are influencing your internal connection. We can examine communication patterns that might feel stuck, understand underlying needs, and find ways to connect to nurture intimacy. It is about understanding the impact of your shared life and how to navigate its complexities as a team. This exploration helps couples find their way back to a deeper sense of partnership.

With over 30 years in private practice, I have witnessed how crucial it is for partners to have a reliable foundation when careers are especially demanding. I offer a grounded, supportive environment where you can both feel heard and understood.
