Anytime I take my kids to Carson Park I have to stop and marvel at this beautiful statue, fittingly called “A Mother’s Undivided Love.”

What a poignant monument to the unseen, yet core work many of us are doing 🤍

This spicy lady gave her momma (and birth team 🙃) a run for their money, coming out ROP - right occiput posterior - after a long and challenging second stage. With some impressive molding to prove it!

Client said, “One of the most important takeaways from meeting with you was that the uncomfortable thing was probably going to be the thing that made the most progress. That was so deeply true!” (It really is!)

This surprise 38 weeker came just a day before I was set to return from vacation, so special shoutout to the one & only Landon Yakovleva (Have Heart Doula and Lactation Services) for stepping in to support this triumphant VBAC at the new Roots Community Birth Center. Having a network of skilled backup is one of the most important parts of being a professional doula, and while I never want to miss a birth, I know that my clients will be in the best of hands with Landon, especially if labor is tricky and requires creative thinking.

After a primary cesarean for arrest of descent (also with a posterior baby) imagine the victory of getting this baby out vaginally! Not only that, but unmedicated outside of the hospital. Bodies and babies are truly incredible 😮‍💨

Big congratulations & happy VBAC to this sweet couple!

Many of you know I have been working with a family who lost their baby unexpectedly, and I want to thank each and every person near and far who contributed to meal support for them, whether by cooking or financially.

I made a commitment years ago that every birth, every family and every baby gets a birth announcement on my page (if the client wants that) — regardless of the path or outcome.

Losses count and should not be hidden behind a veil of silence. These babies and families are real, their stories matter and should be made visible and represented.

With that, please join me in honoring the life of this sweet little soul, that we said hello and goodbye to 3 weeks ago today, on July 1, 2026.

In the words of his parents:

“Sweet Theodore,

“We love you. You've been our gift since the beginning, and will always be our special gift.

“You show us great love and hope. We feel your blessings. I never want to forget your essence and spirit.

“You are immensely loved, sweet baby boy. We want you so badly here on earth, but will try our best to embrace your happy spirit that was gifted to us during pregnancy. We will carry you with us all of the days of our lives.

“Forever loved, cherished, held by us and God."

Health care in the United States is increasingly team-based, and doulas—who often provide emotional, physical, and educational support for patients during birth, the postpartum period, and beyond—are valuable members of many care teams.

ACOG’s new clinical guidance encourages ob-gyn collaboration with doulas and gives ob-gyns the tools they need to better understand a doula’s role. It also highlights the importance of stronger partnerships between clinicians and doulas, which can provide vital support across the lifespan—including during and after pregnancy—and can lead to better patient outcomes.

Thank you to my colleague Landon for this excellent read! Understanding confounding factors and the difference between correlation vs. causation is really important with everything in birth!

This Medical News article discusses a new study that adds to existing evidence that acetaminophen use during pregnancy does not appear to cause autism or ADHD.
