We're excited to now be offering a live-on-Zoom SMART facilitator training for professionals on an "open enrollment" basis! These pictures are from a recent training (guess which one has people responding to a "show us your deep thinking" prompt). Open enrollment means is that you can sign up as an individual counselor, peer support specialist, therapist, or allied recovery professional without having to organize a private cohort group. The increase in deaths from alcohol associated liver disease led to Jenn Jones founding the organization Sober Livers in 2024. Jones saw there was a lack of support and plenty of misunderstanding of the issues involved. Positive news for advocates of multiple pathways to recovery! A recent decision by the Colorado Department of Corrections means that parolees will now be offered a choice of alternatives that include self-empowering SMART Recovery in addition to "twelve step" programs. https://www.friendlyatheist.com/p/colorado-parolees-can-now-choose

Grateful to have taken part in the recent "Breaking Barriers, Building HOPE" Mental Health Matters event organized by in Greensboro, NC. Such a vibrant and spirited gathering of local organizations, individuals, and families who were able to connect and remember that you don’t have to be in crisis to care about your mental health. Dr. Joe Gerstein is the founding president of SMART Recovery and woven into all the years of its existence. By his count has facilitated about 4,000 meetings. He also presents widely on recovery topics, including the importance of individuals being given options when it comes to choosing treatment pathways.
