August is National Eye Exam Month—a reminder that regular eye care is about much more than checking how clearly you see.

July is Dry Eye Awareness Month, and here’s something that may surprise you: watery eyes can actually be a sign of dry eye.

Dry eye can happen when the eyes do not produce enough tears or when the tears are not the right quality to keep the eyes comfortable. In some cases, irritation can cause the eyes to overproduce watery tears as a reflex response.

Symptoms can also overlap with allergies or other eye conditions, so frequent watering, redness, burning, itchiness, grittiness, or blurry vision may be worth discussing during an eye exam.

July is UV Safety Month—a good reminder that darker lenses do not always mean better eye protection.

UV exposure can affect more than your skin. Over time, UV rays may contribute to eye conditions such as cataracts, macular degeneration, growths on the eye, and irritation of the cornea.

Dark lenses can reduce brightness, but the label tells you whether sunglasses help block harmful UV rays. When choosing a pair, look for 100% UVA/UVB protection or UV400.
