As summer nears its end, parents and caregivers prepare for the school year with their children. School time is stressful on its own, but the start can bring on a lot of new routines, expectations, and demands.

Taking care of yourself is vital every day, but especially when you also have to care for someone else. So, in honor of International Self-Care Day, Weems Community Mental Health Center would like to share these reminders and helpful habits with you.

Remember:
πŸ’š Help is always available.
πŸ’š You deserve to rest without feeling guilty.
πŸ’š You deserve the same compassion you give to others.
πŸ’š Mental health is just as important as physical health.
πŸ’š You don't have to weather the storm alone.

July is BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month. During this month, we recognize the challenges still present today for many communities of color when seeking mental health support. We also remember the outstanding work and contributions of Bebe Moore Campbell, who helped pave the way for raising awareness of gaps in care and barriers to accessing important mental health services. Bebe's work with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), many of her published works, and public advocacy helped create a ripple of change throughout communities, organizations, and the minds of many. Together, we can make a difference!

Let this post serve as a reminder that you don't have to weather the internal storm alone. You deserve to heal from the everyday battles that go unseen. Your struggles are real, valid, and deserving of care.

No stigma. No shame. No masking. Just support! πŸ’š

June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month πŸ’™

This month is an opportunity to break the silence of the battles that many men face alone and that are often not visible. Too many times, men are told to "tough things out" or put on a brave face for those around them. This month challenges those outdated expectations. It's encouraging to know that your mental health matters, and it's one of the greatest investments that can be made for yourself and those who love you. Reaching out when you need support doesn't make you weak. When you take the steps needed to care for yourself, you are doing something that takes strength and courage.

Let this post serve as a meaningful reminder to check in on the men you know and love who always say they're fine, whether that be fathers, brothers, sons, husbands, friends, coworkers, or neighbors. And if you are a man reading this, check in with how you feel, too. Remind yourself that it's okay to not be okay all the time, and it's absolutely okay to not have it all figured out. Help is available, hope is possible, and there are people who care!
