Emotional regulation is one of those phrases we hear a lot, but it doesn't mean staying calm all the time or never having big feelings. It means noticing what's happening inside you, making space for those emotions, and having more choice in how you respond. Some days that might mean taking a break before replying to a text. Other days it might mean recognizing you're overwhelmed and asking for help. It's a skill, not a personality trait. And like any skill, it can grow with practice and support.

One sport. One identity. One bad season away from burnout.

Normalizing mental health means young athletes get to keep loving the game, not just performing it. Strong mind, strong body, on and off the field.

If you only let yourself rest after everything is done, you may never really get the chance. There will almost always be another email to answer, another chore to finish, or another task waiting for your attention. Rest isn't something you have to earn by pushing yourself to the limit. It's part of taking care of yourself so you can keep showing up for the people and things that matter. If guilt shows up the moment you slow down, you're not the only one-and it's something you can explore with support if it's getting in the way of everyday life.

We also want to acknowledge that this month is grief awareness month.
Grief touches more people than we think, 1 in 3 people report experiencing significant grief in the past three years. Unresolved grief can increase risk of depression, anxiety and physical illness.

Here at Ellie we are here to help you through all seasons of life, we wish you all a happy and healthy August!🔆

Not every struggling athlete looks burned out. Sometimes it shows up as irritability. Sometimes it's a sudden lack of motivation. Sometimes it's a kid who used to love their sport but now dreads practice, seems emotionally checked out, or just doesn't seem like themselves. It's easy to assume they're being lazy, distracted, or going through a phase. But burnout, anxiety, and performance pressure can affect athletes at every level. If something feels different, trust that instinct. A simple conversation can open the door to support long before things reach a breaking point.

Summer can make it seem like everyone else is having the best few months of their life. Every scroll brings another vacation, another celebration, another picture-perfect moment. Meanwhile, real life is still happening. Bills still need to be paid. Work still needs to get done. Relationships still have hard moments. Mental health struggles don't disappear just because it's sunny outside. When we compare our everyday lives to someone else's carefully selected moments, it's easy to feel like we're missing out or falling behind. The truth is that most people are carrying things you can't see through a screen. If social media has been leaving you feeling worse instead of more connected, that feeling is worth paying attention to.

Meet an Ellie therapist, Cassidy Schaffer LCSW🐘

Whether you're carrying something that's been weighing on you for years or navigating a new challenge, you deserve a space where you feel genuinely seen, heard, and supported. Cassidy creates a warm, authentic environment where you can show up exactly as you are. Together, you'll work toward understanding your experiences, healing what no longer serves you, and building a life that feels more aligned with your values.

Using a trauma-informed approach, Cassidy integrates evidence-based practices including DBT, ACT, EFT, and elements of IFS to help you better understand the parts of yourself that deserve compassion and healing while developing practical skills for creating meaningful relationships and lasting change. She works with individuals and couples navigating relationship challenges, anxiety, grief, trauma, and life's transitions, helping you reconnect with yourself and feel more like you again.

Outside the therapy room, you'll likely find Cassidy enjoying the outdoors, working in the garden, fishing, reading a good book, or spending time with her family.
