Launching on October 17, 2026, National Cremation Placement Day honors the 150th anniversary of modern cremation in America, which began with the build of the nation's first crematorium in Washington, Pennsylvania, in 1876.

It will be observed annually on the third Saturday in October. National Cremation Placement Day highlights the beauty and importance of permanent memorialization.

Today, an estimated 20 million Americans have a loved one's cremated remains tucked away at home. While keeping an urn nearby is a comforting temporary step, finding a permanent resting place offers families a profound sense of closure and peace.

Every life story deserves a permanent place to be remembered.

On National POW/MIA Recognition Day, held every year on the third Friday of September, we honor the extraordinary bravery of our military members who were held as prisoners of war or remain missing in action.
Established by presidential proclamation in 1979 and symbolized by the iconic POW/MIA flag, this day is a promise that we will never forget their sacrifice--or stop seeking answers for the families who still await their return. Today and every day, we remember.

We are proud to support the arrival of the Tribute Vietnam Veteran Wall, which will be on display in Meridian from October 8th through October 11th.

​Visiting this moving tribute is an important opportunity for our community to come together, reflect, and honor the brave men and women who served our nation during the Vietnam War. It serves as a powerful reminder of our shared American history and the deep sacrifices made for our freedom.

​At our Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes and Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, supporting our veterans is a cause close to our hearts. Almost all of us have veterans within our families or are veterans ourselves. We remain fully committed to honoring and remembering every single person who has worn the uniform in service to our country.

September 11, 2001, changed our lives forever. Amid the heartbreak, our nation responded with extraordinary love, strength, and unity. We set aside differences to care for neighbors and strangers alike, standing shoulder to shoulder as one community.
​Today, we honor the courage of every first responder, firefighter, officer, and selfless citizen who ran toward danger to save others, as well as every innocent life lost.
​It is heartbreaking that it often takes a tragedy to bring out our deepest compassion. The true lesson of 9/11 is that we shouldn't wait for a crisis to hold space for one another. Let's honor those we lost by choosing kindness, empathy, and unity—not just today, but every single day.

Our entire community feels a deep and painful void today. Mrs. Fannie Johnson was a giant of grace, love, and relentless generosity.

For more than forty years, she poured her heart into L.O.V.E.'s Kitchen, acting as a true sanctuary of hope and sustenance for everyone in need. Whether she was serving a hot meal, offering a kind word, or fighting for our neighborhoods as a former City Councilwoman, her hands and heart were always open.

She loved our community fiercely. Her legacy is written in the generations of lives she touched, lifted, and changed.

Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences go out to her family, her loved ones, and all who were blessed to know her gentle spirit. May we honor her memory by continuing to show the same profound love and care for one another that she modeled every single day.

Rest in peace, Mrs. Johnson. Your city will never forget you. 🕊️❤️

A Tribute to a National Treasure: Dolly Parton

Today, our hearts are heavy alongside millions around the world as we mourn the passing of a true American icon, Dolly Parton.

Beyond her legendary voice, timeless songs, and unmatched grace, Dolly gave us a masterclass in humanity. Her boundless generosity, kindness, and deep love for people touched countless lives, bridging generations and bringing light to even the darkest of days.

She reminded us all that a legacy is measured not by fame, but by the love we leave behind in the hearts of others.

As a mark of respect and in remembrance of her extraordinary life, the flags at our cemetery and funeral home have been lowered to half-staff.

May she rest in eternal peace, wrapped in the comfort of the heaven she sang about so beautifully, and reunited with her beloved Carl.

Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences go out to her family, her loved ones, and fans across the world who feel this loss so deeply.
