Jim Rohn told a story that made this concept unforgettable.
He said: is it possible to make a million dollars in a year? Yes. Is it possible to earn $5 an hour? Also yes. So the marketplace is willing to pay from $5 to a million. The difference isn't the number of hours you work. It's the value you bring.
"We get paid for bringing value to the marketplace. It takes time to bring value to the marketplace, but we get paid for the value, not for the time."
This is the sentence that separates people who feel stuck from people who feel unstoppable.
If you're only getting paid for your time, there's a mathematical ceiling on your income. Twenty-four hours in a day, and some of those you need for sleeping. But if you get paid for your value — for the problems you solve, the expertise you deliver, the transformation you create — there's no limit.
Here's the catch: it takes time to become valuable. Time to learn. Time to practice. Time to fail and learn again. Jim never said it was easy. He said it was worth it.
What's one skill you've invested in that dramatically increased your value in the marketplace?
