Hi all 👋🏼 Kamryn here!!

Just a fun lil update in my world — I have been a little MIA because not only have I been working with to support clients on AHCCCS, I am now a Birth Assistant at Willow Birth Center here in Arizona!! I LOVE it and I’ve truly deep dived into all things birth and it feels so right + good 🤍

With that being said- I am still taking doula clients! Self pay or Arizona AHCCCS members.. I can’t wait to further my career in the birth world + help alllll the families bring their sweet babies earth side!

we hear this ALL the time - “you shouldn’t make a birth plan or have any expectations because you’re just setting yourself up to be disappointed!”

here’s why we disagree-
birth is not a performance that you pass or fail depending on the outcome. part of preparing for birth is making the crucial separation of your worth from your birth outcome, and accepting the reality that you are not ultimately in control. making a birth plan IS NOT about drawing up a blueprint for exactly how your birth needs to go in order to be a positive experience. it’s about feeling informed about your options and the different possibilities so you can feel confident and autonomous. it’s about setting yourself up to be supported and heard and listened to during a monumental experience that you will never forget. you can make a birth plan AND still leave room for the fact that we don’t know where birth will take us - regardless of how we prepare. you are allowed to have goals, and hopes, and preferences for your birth — you can do ALL of those things while still giving yourself the grace & compassion to accept other paths that may present themselves when birth comes.

we can do better than no or low expectations. our moms deserve better!

regardless of what kind of birth your planning, it’s important to have lots of different coping strategies in your tool box to draw from!

labor is all about finding a rhythm & ritual that works for you, and usually that changes as labor progresses. what worked at the beginning might not have the same effect in transition! having lots different strategies to try will keep you feeling equipped to handle whatever your labor throws at you 🙌

one thing we wish we could tell every pregnant mama -

if you don’t LOVE and TRUST your provider, it’s time to get a new one.

your provider will have a huge impact on your birth space & experience. please don’t settle! it’s never too late to find a new one.

there are providers (like the one pictured 🥰) who will be so aligned with your goals & preferences that they will advocate for you, give you counter pressure, let you labor how & where you want, trust your body, and be a source of peace & encouragement when you need it.

you deserve that kind of support during such a monumental time!

shoutout to all of the incredible providers who are real life angels! 🫶🫶🫶
