Today is International Overdose Awareness Day. We remember those we have lost and the loved ones who continue to carry their memory. We also recognize the people who are still here, still struggling, still recovering, and still deserving of hope. When we replace judgment with understanding, we make it easier for someone to reach out and ask for help.

Today is National Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day, an opportunity to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl and the importance of prevention, education, and access to treatment.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid approximately 50 times more potent than he**in and 100 times more potent than morphine. Even a very small amount can cause a fatal overdose.

One of the greatest dangers is that fentanyl can be mixed with substances such as he**in, co***ne, or methamphetamine without a person knowing, significantly increasing the risk of overdose.

The impact of fentanyl reaches far beyond the statistics. Individuals, families, and communities continue to be affected by substance use and addiction every day.

Education can save lives. Treatment can change lives. And recovery is possible.
