It's August! That means it's time for the Spero Stuttering, Inc. 5K!! Have you signed up??

I did a little training session with Ladder and Coach Sam Tooley this morning.

I really wanted to quit this run halfway through. But I kept telling myself, "I can do hard things! Mind over matter!" I imagined J O D Y 💛 G O U D R E A U and Chelsea Smith, MOT, OTR/L cheering me on. I knew my body was capable, I just needed to push through the doubt in my head.

We all have that nagging voice that tells us to stop, we're not good enough, we can't. Mine was very present today. I tried to override it with, "I am strong, my body is capable, I know I can!" And it worked! I didn't stop! I finished the hard workout!

Shout out thank you to Kimberly Stole for making my garage gym dreams come true with the addition of a treadmill.

Feeling grateful for this Saturday workout!

Just in case you were wondering, it's HOT in AZ 🌵🥵 102° during my workout today. And I kept going! (With lots of hydration and electrolytes!)

A little exercise to experience what it might feel like to use speech tools/strategies/techniques to modify stuttering or attempt to be more fluent.

Try this at home! What was it like for you?

My amazing shirt is brought to you by . I do not earn commission to promote 🤣😉

Client quote of the week: "stuttering isn't a bad thing"

We agree!!!

What do you think? Does it make people unique?

While answering questions during our game today, a client said the world would be a better place if we spread more kindness. I agree!!!

Go out and spread kindness today! What do you have to lose?

As a parent, you have a voice in making sure speech therapy is supportive, up-to-date, and aligned with what your child who stutters really needs. Here are questions parents and caregivers can ask at an IEP meeting or before an evaluation through a school:

❓“What is the goal of speech therapy for my child? Fluency, communication confidence, or a combination?”

❓“What approaches are you using with students who stutter?”

❓"How will therapy support participation in class?”

❓“How does the team plan to reduce shame, fear, and avoidance around speaking?”

❓“Do you collaborate with my child’s teacher so they understand how to support stuttering in the classroom?”

❓“How will we measure progress beyond fluency? What does success look like?”

You are allowed to ask questions. You are allowed to get clarity. You are allowed to advocate.

Your child deserves support that strengthens confidence, safety, and communication… not pressure to be fluent.
