PSA: 🚨 PROCTER & GAMBLE IS BUYING THORNE.

P&G has announced a $3.8 BILLION agreement to acquire Thorne by the end of the year. Thorne is a company that built its reputation as a high-quality, practitioner-trusted supplement line.

I want to be clear right away: This does NOT mean Thorne’s products will become bad overnight -- but it absolutely means I will be paying very close attention going forward.

It's important to educate yourselves and work with a provider who stays on top of what they are recommending. When a professional supplement company is purchased by a massive consumer-products corporation, the incentives and decision-making priorities can change.

As with any company acquisition, especially of this scale, I think there are reasonable questions to ask:
- Will there be pressure to reduce manufacturing costs?
- Replace expensive, quality ingredients with less costly alternatives?
- Simplify or reformulate products?
- Discontinue excellent, but less profitable, clinical formulas?
- Expand into mass retail and prioritize sales volume over practitioner standards?

I genuinely hope Thorne’s quality remains exactly where it is.
We shall see.

We have watched this happen so many times in the supplement industry 😭: A trusted professional company is acquired, assurances are made that “nothing will change,” and then changes begin slowly. Sometimes it's the ingredients, sometimes the formulations or manufacturing, and sometimes where and how the products are sold.

The question now is whether the priorities of a publicly traded multinational corporation will continue to align with those of a practitioner-focused clinical supplement company.

P&G's priorities will undoubtedly include scaling & growth, expanding market share, and getting a return on that $3.8 BILLION investment (...and WOW, what an investment!).

Those priorities aren't inherently wrong ~ but as a provider, I'll be watching to see whether they ever come at the expense of the formulation integrity, ingredient quality, manufacturing standards, and clinical focus that built Thorne's reputation in the first place.

Because when supplements are being used therapeutically, quality is not a minor detail!

The exact ingredient matters.
The dose matters.
The timing matters.
The formulation matters.
Manufacturing matters.
Quality control matters.

And who ultimately controls those decisions matters.

~~~
On that note, now that it’s the end of the day, I’ve already received communication from Standard Process reassuring practitioners that they intend to remain privately held and will NOT be sold. I really appreciate companies being proactive about protecting that independence and communicating it to the practitioners who rely on their products.
Aptogenix has made a similar commitment. It was created by medical professionals, for medical professionals, with a commitment to protect formulation integrity, use premium ingredients, maintain rigorous quality standards, and remain a professional-line company rather than eventually being sold to a large corporation or moved into a mass-market retail model.
THAT matters to me.
It doesn't mean these are the professional supplement companies I trust or recommend ~ I use many excellent professional brands for various things, and I genuinely hope Thorne remains one of them. I don't recommend a supplement simply because I've recommended that brand for the last 15 years. If something changes, I want to know about it.
Standard Process, Biotics Research and Aptogenix are now available through Fullscript, along with many of the other professional supplement companies I use in practice.
For those unfamiliar with Fullscript, it is the professional dispensary we use for our clients and practice members. Products come through an authorized professional supply chain, so we know we're getting *authentic products from vetted manufacturers* - not something counterfeit, improperly stored, expired, or coming through an unknown third-party reseller (a-hem, Amazon).
If you already work with a holistic or integrative provider, ask them about the professional lines they use and WHY they choose them. And if you don't have a Fullscript account and would like access to ours, there is a link in my bio.
And of course, please don't interpret "access to professional supplements" as "go buy 17 new supplements." 😂 More is NOT always better! What you take, why you're taking it, the dose, the combination, and whether it's appropriate for you still matters! So talk with your doc before starting any supplement program.
(This is definitely a PSA, but turned into another soap-box moment. Education & health advocacy is so important! ~ The news is getting me this past week. 🫠)
This case is one of the most devastating examples of how a healthcare system can fail a patient and an entire family. I am feeling all kinds of things reading how she was handled by these providers, and "crisis" facilities.
If this documented timeline is accurate, there were repeated cries for help: severe insomnia, racing thoughts, worsening anxiety, palpitations, confusion, derealization, inability to distinguish what was real, suicidal thoughts, hallucinations, multiple ER visits, crisis calls, and desperate pleas that she was getting worse.
Yet the nauseating response appeared to be the same over and over again: another medication, another dose adjustment, another prescription.
This woman, her husband and their children were failed so unbelievably bad.
I do not believe we should walk away from cases like this without asking seriously difficult questions.
🙏 Thinking of Lindsay, Patrick, their beautiful children, and everyone whose lives have been forever changed by this unimaginable tragedy.
Something has to change.
~~~~
Two months before Lindsay Clancy killed her three children, she reportedly told her prescriber she could no longer determine what was real. She described feeling disoriented, forgetful, confused, and disconnected.

The medications continued.

Here’s the reported timeline: (I can't even believe this...)

• Mid-October 2022: Started on Zoloft 25 mg, increased within days to 50 mg.

• She reported not sleeping for 48 hours, racing thoughts, worsening anxiety.

• October 20: Reported heart palpitations and worsening mental health.

• Zoloft was discontinued. Ativan and Benadryl were prescribed.

• November 16: Emergency room visit for insomnia, anxiety, and palpitations.

• Discharged with trazodone.

• November 20: Evaluated through a perinatal behavioral health program after family sought help.

• Reported feeling “very frustrated” and “scared” with profound insomnia and racing thoughts.

• Prozac was prescribed.

• November 24: Reported Prozac worsened her insomnia.

• Ambien, Remeron, and Klonopin were added.

• The following day she reported she could no longer determine what was real. She described being disoriented, forgetful, confused, and disconnected.

• November 28: Sleeping only about three hours, frightened and disoriented.

• Seroquel was prescribed.

• December 2: Reported suicidal thoughts and hearing voices.

• Three days later she called a crisis hotline requesting admission but reportedly did "not meet admission criteria".

• December 6: Her husband accompanied her to an appointment and reportedly stated she had significantly worsened after starting Seroquel.

• The dose was increased.

• December 20: Returned to the emergency room with suicidal thoughts.

• She entered one treatment program but was reportedly discharged after a physician believed overmedication - not a primary psychiatric illness - was driving her presentation.

• She was admitted elsewhere and later discharged with trazodone.

• January 10: Prescribed Va**um and later amitriptyline.

• January 24: She reportedly described hearing a male voice telling her to kill her children before killing herself.

Her children were 5 years old, 3 years old, and 8 months old.

By that point, she had reportedly been prescribed 13 psychiatric medications or medication changes in approximately four months.

This was horrifying for me to read. This woman had severe sleep deprivation. She was turned away from getting help, and medicated, and continually overmedicated.

WAS ANYONE thinking, caring or asking some questions??

- Were medication adverse effects, drug interactions, paradoxical reactions, activation, akathisia, withdrawal, postpartum psychiatric illness, neurological disease, hormonal changes, or other medical conditions fully reconsidered as her symptoms escalated???

- When someone repeatedly says, “I’m getting worse,” shouldn’t that trigger a comprehensive reassessment, rather than simply another prescription??? ESPECIALLY those meds??

Honestly! As a holistic provider, I strongly believe this is where medicine must evolve.

Whole-person care does not mean rejecting medication; medications save lives every day, and are absolutely appropriate for many patients.

But **medication should never replace ongoing critical thinking**!!!

When an individual's condition rapidly deteriorates - ESPECIALLY after medications are started or changed - we should pause and ASK:

• Is the diagnosis still correct?
• Could the treatment (drug) itself be contributing to or causing the symptoms?
• Are we seeing adverse effects, drug interactions, or withdrawal?
• Has profound sleep deprivation become a medical emergency for this person??
• Have we evaluated endocrine, metabolic, neurologic, inflammatory, infectious, nutritional, and postpartum contributors?
• Does this patient need a multidisciplinary team **instead of another prescription**??

People deserve physicians, holistic practitioners, psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, pharmacists, nurses and families who communicate with one another, not isolated providers treating individual symptoms and throwing more drugs at them or saying there's nothing wrong when clearly there is.

NO ONE should fall through the cracks like this.

I really, deeply hope this becomes a catalyst for better monitoring, better care, integrated care, safer & more responsible prescribing, and seriously - the humility to ask whether the current treatment plan is truly helping, or making them worse.

We owe every individual, and their families, better than this.

Soapbox over. ❤️

I don’t usually rant on here, but this one broke my heart. If this tragedy encourages even one clinician to pause, ask more questions, review the medications, or look beyond the next prescription, then this post was worth writing.

A few of my closest male family members had no idea how difficult (often relatively impossible) it is for a woman to make reproductive choices for herself.
They were stunned when I said most doctors will not provide a tubal ligation to women with no children, or to women who have had children and don't want any more children, or who have had a very difficult pregnancy and do not want to go through that again. Women are told, "What if your future husband wants children?", "What if you want (more) children in the future?", "What if something happens to your children, you're going to want to have more children."
If a woman is married, it's nearly impossible to have a tubal ligation without his permission.
Or her mother-in-law's permission. (I'm serious.)

Men can get a vasectomy without question, without anyone else's knowledge.

So I wanted to pass this along, because maybe some women would like to hear it. ❤️

🥦 One of the most powerful "superfoods" isn't a supplement... it's broccoli sprouts.
Broccoli sprouts are packed with glucoraphanin, which your body converts into sulforaphane, a natural compound that has been *extensively* studied for its health benefits!

BREAST HEALTH: Sulforaphane has meaningful anticancer activity in breast-cancer cells and animals, reaches human breast tissue, and is promising biologically ~ BUT human trials have not yet shown that it prevents or treats breast cancer because the dose and duration (at least in one) were not long enough. Someone do a study, give a good amount, and make it long enough!! :)

Either way ~ It's only healthy. :) Research shows sulforaphane helps:
✨ Support healthy estrogen metabolism by helping your liver process and eliminate estrogen metabolites more efficiently.
✨ Activate your body's natural detoxification pathways (the Nrf2 pathway), increasing production of your own antioxidant and detoxification enzymes.
✨ Help protect cells from oxidative stress and DNA damage caused by everyday metabolism and environmental toxins.
✨ Support healthy inflammation levels throughout the body.
✨ Promote brain, immune, and cellular health.
✨ Support healthy aging by enhancing your body's own defense and repair systems.

The best part is you don't need a huge amount. Around ½ cup of fresh broccoli sprouts per day can provide a meaningful amount of sulforaphane. If there are any family history concerns about breast cancer, 1 cup of broccoli sprouts would be excellent to include in your diet every day!

The cheapest way is to grow them yourself in a jar. There are sprouting kits online, and they grow FAST. It's fun to watch your food grow on your counter or windowsill!

💡 Pro tip: Eat them raw (or only very lightly heated) and chew them well. For even better sulforaphane production, sprinkle on a little mustard seed powder or enjoy them with radishes or arugula (I love arugula...), as they contain an enzyme called myrosinase that helps unlock sulforaphane. The bitters in the greens will also help your digestion.

If you make or eat sprouts, please share a pic!!

Food really can be powerful medicine. Sometimes the biggest health benefits come from the smallest plants. 🌱🥦

A Note on Supplements:
Supplements are not a replacement for good nutrition - they are a supplement TO good nutrition ~ so if you cannot eat broccoli sprouts every day, or do not wish to eat them every day, you can add a capsule of high-quality sulforaphane to your routine, available on Fullscripts. BroccoProtect by Designs for Health or SulforaClear by Metagenics are good choices. (~ Ideally, please check with your doc first, before adding supplements!)

(I loved this woman's broccoli sprouts video, since I don't make my own videos. :D You do NOT need a fancy sprouting contraption... a wide mouth mason jar, mesh lid, optional cheesecloth, bowl & seeds.)

Grow your own nutrient-packed broccoli sprouts in just 5 days! Broc...

Earlier this year, homeopathy legislation had been introduced in the House of Representatives (H.R. 7050). But now, we have exciting news!

After seven years of relentless advocacy for patients, sleepless nights, and thousands of grassroots voices speaking up…
Our bill to protect homeopathy has been introduced in the Senate, S. 4692!

This is TRULY the moment we’ve been fighting for — to have our legislation introduced in both chambers. But it’s also the moment when we could lose it all if we don’t move fast.

I’m asking you to take a minute right now to tell all your members of Congress–especially your U.S. Senators to:
Support the Homeopathic Drug Product Safety, Quality and Transparency Act. (We’re calling it the Homeopathic Medicines Act for short).

We’ve written the message for you. All you have to do is click, review, and send.

Our goal is to send 90K comments to the Senate by June 15th!

Please share and tag us after you’ve submitted your comment 🙏

One of my favorite "practices" - and it takes CONSCIOUS PRACTICE until it becomes "part of how you operate" - is Gratitude. It changes everything.

Practicing gratitude does not mean ignoring life’s challenges. It means intentionally shifting your focus toward what is GOOD, what is nourishing, and meaningful for you - even in difficult seasons, and no matter how small.

If you are super stressed, and can't even THINK of what you could possibly be grateful for ~ I understand. I've been there. & I started with, "I am grateful for my breath. I am grateful I have a roof over my head. I am grateful I'm SAFE. I am grateful I have food. I am grateful for the beautiful clouds today. I am grateful for the flower on that cactus!!" - and the gratitude just grows. All of a sudden, there seem to be a hundred things to be grateful for!!

Don't underestimate the POWER of gratitude. A grateful mind and heart can calm the nervous system, reduce stress chemistry in your body, improve sleep, and truly help create more resilience emotionally and physically.

I invite you to practice, and take a few moments today to pause and reflect on:

✨ What brought you peace today?
✨ Who or what are you thankful for?
✨ What simple thing made you smile?

What we focus on grows. 🌿
Pause, and practice.
Watch what beauty unfolds in your life.

Skin cancer check day!! & What most people don’t realize about sunscreen…

First: Make sure to get skin cancer checks YEARLY, and if you are like me and my mom, who NEVER wore sunblock growing up & have paid for it 🫠 ~ you may need to go every 3 or 6 months!!
I've healed my skin a *LOT* - from the inside & outside - the past 9 years. 💞 I regularly use sunblock now (Badger is my favorite & is SUPER clean), and it has helped tremendously.
The Vitamin D I take is from FullScripts (link in bio), called Bio-DK-mulsion Forte. Five drops per day, it is extremely well absorbed, and is especially good for people who have had their gallbladder removed!

I just read the latest report from the Environmental Working Group, and it highlights something important most of you probably already know:

Not all sunscreens are created equal.

EWG's analysis found that only about 1 in 4 sunscreens meet standards for both safety AND effective protection. ☀️

Here’s what stood out:

• Many sunscreens don’t provide enough UVA protection (the rays that age skin and increase cancer risk)
• Some contain questionable ingredients (like certain chemical filters or undisclosed fragrance blends)
• High SPF numbers can be *misleading* and give a false sense of security
• Spray sunscreens may not provide even coverage and raise inhalation concerns

Here's the Bottom Line: Sunscreen matters. However, quality, ingredients, and application matter just as much.

✨ Of course, here’s the part most people miss (& I have some crazy stories about reversing sunburns within hours!)

Sunscreen is only ONE layer of protection.

Your skin’s ability to handle sun exposure also depends heavily on what’s happening INSIDE your body!!

🌿 Antioxidants = internal sun protection support

Antioxidants help:
• Neutralize free radicals created by UV exposure
• Reduce inflammation in the skin
• Support repair after sun exposure
• Improve resilience against burning

Think of them as your “internal SPF support system.”

Key nutrients for skin resilience:
• Vitamin C
• Vitamin E
• Polyphenols (green tea, berries)
• Carotenoids (beta-carotene, astaxanthin, lycopene)

REAL protection isn’t just what you put ON your skin… it’s also how you support it from within. These don’t replace sunscreen, but they can reduce how easily you burn and how much damage occurs.

My approach for clients:
☀️ Choose a clean, effective sunscreen. (ideally mineral-based with zinc oxide)
☀️ Reapply consistently. (This is the part most people skip! Don't be that person.)
☀️ Support the skin internally with antioxidants
☀️ Use common sense: shade, hats, timing your sun exposure if possible.

My mom has been my rock. 12 years ago: This day was brutal - Easter Sunday & we were going to brunch with a group of people. I had just moved back to Arizona from California, my (now ex) husband was "taking care of himself" and bailed on the kids, and me. Everything was on my shoulders. I was "in survival mode", and overwhelmed.
I had a complete & massive nervous breakdown at my mom's before brunch.
I have no idea how she did it... she SOMEHOW made me wash my face. Get dressed. Put on makeup. Get in the car, and go to brunch with the kids and her. I remember sitting at brunch with everyone, feeling numb, dissociated and shellshocked when this picture was taken. I smiled for the photo.
Somewhere in my mind I knew I was grateful for my mom making me pull myself together, sit there with all those people and show up for my kids.
I seriously do not know what I would have done without my mother. I don't know how she did it, with love and care, but firmness, every time this memory comes up.
I owe her everything in my life.
❤️
April is Mental Health Awareness month, and Stress Awareness Month.
Stress almost broke me, and my mom (and also my dad!!!) picked me back up, over and over.
❤️

I thought I'd share if for nothing else to say Life can be unbelievably hard - and having or getting help is SO important, especially if you don't want it, or think you need it!!
If you feel like, "I'm not okay" - there are people who care about you, and will help you, and be there for you. There are SO many resources now, that are easily accessible virtually, or in person if you can.

Put one foot in front of the other. Do one small thing at a time. - Pick up the phone, reach out online.
We ALL know Life can be hard - and you matter.

Take care of yourselves!!! ❤️

(& I love you so much, mom & dad. ❤️)
