PEAC is wrapping up week 2 of summer camp! Our theme was storybook week 🐭🍪🐈🐟🚒🐊 The campers got to learn and read about different stories and participate in different themed art & sensory activities 🤩

We even had some very special visitors! Jefferson Parish Fire Department came to teach our campers about fire safety and do a tour of the fire truck 🚒🔥 It was such a blast!!

Lori Reyes also came to read her very-own book “The Lazy Alligator” 🐊 An awesome, interactive Louisiana-themed children’s book! It was a hit 😁📖

Sometimes working in pediatrics can be tricky! How can you motivate your patients when they simply do NOT feel like participating in therapy? 🤔🙅‍♂️🤣

Getting kids motivated can be lots of work - but making sure they are happy and comfortable is when the best progress happens! 😁🥳 Finding out what their interests & favorite things are will allow for increased participation in therapeutic activities 👏

✂️ FINE MOTOR SKILLS ✏️
What are they anyways?
✏️ Fine motor skills are the hands’ complex abilities to use and manipulate objects using small, precise movements
✍🏻 Fine motor skills are typically treated by occupational therapists when they need improvements or therapeutic intervention
🖍️ We use fine motor skills EVERYDAY! Using your phone, typing on the computer, tying your shoes, buttoning your shirt…just to name a few!
🖌️ Fine motor skills can also be described through other categories and terms like bilateral coordination, finger isolation, pincer grasp, wrist mobility, and more!
✂️ Fine motor skills use the small muscles of the hands to allow us to complete specific tasks and carry our functional activities of daily living
