We'd love to have you join us as we explore ways to strengthen connections, better understand children, and build secure, healthy relationships.

Some of the biggest battles with children start over the smallest things.

“Put your shoes on.”
“No.”
“It’s time for bed.”
“No.”
“Please get dressed.”
“No!”

It can feel like they are arguing about everything. But often, they are really fighting for a bit of control.

The boundary can stay the same, while you give a small choice inside it:

“Shoes first or coat first?”
“Red top or blue top?”
“Do you want to walk to the gate or hold my hand?”
“Teeth first or pyjamas first?”

The task still happens. You are not giving in. You are helping your child feel heard without turning every routine into a standoff.

Keep the choices simple. Only offer options you can genuinely accept. Then pause and give them a moment to decide.

It will not fix every hard moment, and some days will still be messy. But a little choice can lower the temperature for everyone.

How to Correct Behavior Without Rejecting the Child.

Discipline should teach, not wound.

A child needs to understand that a poor choice does not make them a bad person. We can correct firmly, hold boundaries, and still protect the connection they depend on.

Ask what happened before assuming. Correct privately when possible. Use consequences that make sense. Let them feel upset without withdrawing love. And when the moment is over, help them repair and try again.

The message should always be clear:

“What you did needs to change, but you are still loved, still safe, and still worthy of connection.” ❤️

When a child is shouting, throwing things or refusing to listen, it can be hard to know what to do first. This free Connection Before Correction poster offers a simple reminder: help them feel understood before trying to teach, correct or set consequences.

Children and young people often cannot think clearly when big feelings take over. A calm response such as, “I can see you’re really angry. I won’t let you throw toys,” can hold both the feeling and the boundary.

The poster includes everyday examples and practical language to support calmer discipline, emotional regulation and respectful limits at home, school or in care settings. Useful for parents, carers and anyone supporting children with big emotions.
