🌡️ Miami tied its all-time heat record yesterday — 100°F.

That's only the second time Miami has reached triple digits since records began in 1895. The last time was July 21, 1942 — 84 years ago. Heat advisories covered Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach with heat index values between 105°F and 112°F, and more than 70 million Americans were under heat alerts nationwide.

Normally our Atlantic sea breeze acts like a natural air conditioner. This week, a heat dome pushed drier air down and overpowered it — and a plume of Saharan dust kept the usual afternoon storms away. Storms return tonight through the weekend, which will bring highs back into the low-to-mid 90s, but the humidity is here to stay.

In heat like this, knowing the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke can save a life.

😓 Heat exhaustion: heavy sweating, cool and clammy skin, headache, dizziness, nausea, muscle cramps, weakness, a fast weak pulse. Move to a cool place, loosen clothing, sip water — and get evaluated. Left untreated, it can progress.

🚨 Heat stroke — call 911 immediately: confusion or slurred speech, fainting or unresponsiveness, hot dry skin with no sweating, a body temperature of 103°F or higher, seizure. Do not drive yourself. Cool the person and wait for EMS.

🦟 Mosquito Season Is Here, Miami Shores — Here's What Every Family Should Know.

Miami-Dade County is under an active mosquito-borne illness alert, and dengue has been all over the news across Florida — the CDC is reporting a major jump in cases nationally, with June and July being peak months for transmission. 🌴
