If you’re young and want to stay looking young, do you need Botox and Filler… or should you be doing something else first? 👀. We asked board certified dermatologist Dr. Sergio Gaitan what he recommends when younger patients ask how they can maintain their skin as they age.
His philosophy focuses less on chasing every new injectable trend and more on protecting and improving skin quality.
☀️ Daily sunscreen comes first. UV exposure contributes to premature skin aging, pigmentation and changes in skin texture.
⚡️ Next generation laser treatments can be part of a long term skin rejuvenation strategy. Depending on your skin type and concern, nonablative facial lasers can address pigmentation, redness, texture, pores and signs of photoaging while stimulating collagen with significantly less downtime than traditional aggressive resurfacing.
💉 What about facial balancing with dermal filler?
Dr. Gaitan does not routinely perform “full facial balancing” simply as an anti aging strategy. Research using MRI has challenged the old assumption that hyaluronic acid filler always disappears within a short period of time. For that reason, he prefers a conservative approach.
That doesn’t mean filler never has a role. For someone who naturally lacks projection or structure in a specific area, such as the chin, carefully placed filler may be appropriate.
✨ And preventative Botox?
You don’t automatically need Botox because you turned 25, 30 or 35.
Dr. Gaitan’s approach is to evaluate the person rather than the birthday. Once expression lines and fine lines begin appearing, a neuromodulator may be beneficial. Before then, he often prioritizes sunscreen, skincare and treatments that improve the health and quality of the skin itself.
The goal isn’t to freeze aging.
It’s to help your skin age well.
