A lot is changing for self-funded plans this year. We'll be at SPBA to talk through all of it.

Nomi Health is proud to sponsor of SPBA's 2026 Spring Meeting on March 30–31 at the Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C.

This year's agenda is dialed in on what matters most to TPAs and plan sponsors:

▪️ PBM reform
▪️ Transparency in Coverage updates
▪️ No Surprises Act dispute resolution
▪️ Mental health parity compliance

Attending? Find us at our tabletop. We look forward to the conversation!

In banking, you reconcile to the penny.

In healthcare? Self-funded employers often just make sure the requested amount goes out the door.

Chris Deacon ran a $7 billion health plan that paid $25 million in claims every single day. The "financial control" was making sure that if Horizon requested $25,530,000, exactly that amount was transferred by 11 a.m.

No one checked if the $25 million was actually correct.

In this clip, Boe and Chris discuss why healthcare operates this way when the tools to reconcile down to the penny already exist.

Chris's answer will make you rethink how your company pays healthcare claims.

Imagine running a health plan for 820,000 people. You're responsible for $7 billion in taxpayer money.

You put a protection in the contract that your carrier must charge you whichever is less—what the provider bills or their negotiated rate.

Then you discover they've been doing the exact opposite.

That's what happened to Chris Deacon. She was running New Jersey's public health plan. It was her job to make sure the numbers added up.

They didn't.

She had a choice. She could keep quiet and keep her job, or blow the whistle and risk everything.

She chose the whistle.

On this episode of Healthcare Rebuilt, Chris tells Boe Hartman, CTO and Co-founder of Nomi Health, what she found and why every employer should be asking harder questions about their own health plan.

Whether we're in the office, or on the ice, this team is committed to sweeping away the friction in healthcare one stone (okay, boulder) at a time.

Here are some of the faces behind the elbow grease it takes every day to clear what stands between employers, providers, and the people they serve. Making healthcare work the way it should is an Olympic-worthy goal, if you ask us!🥌

CMS invited roughly 40 experts to New York to solve a $60B problem. Nomi was one of them.

CMS convened a small group of specialists for an invitation-only working session with one clear goal: reduce fraud without added burden on patients and providers.

Self-funded employers, brokers, TPAs: this one's for you. Medicare leads. Commercial insurance follows. The identity verification and payment integrity standards taking shape right now will reach every plan sponsor's desk.

We came away with a clear view of where fraud prevention is headed and what it means for everyone who manages health plan risk.

Same coverage. Same drug class. Different outcomes.

Nomi analyzed nearly 5 million GLP-1 prescriptions across two years of employer-sponsored coverage. For diabetes, utilization holds steady across all neighborhoods. For obesity, it doesn't.

People in higher-risk neighborhoods fill GLP-1 prescriptions for obesity at rates roughly 20% lower than those in lower-risk neighborhoods. That gap held across both years. And since everyone in this dataset has insurance, coverage isn't the explanation.

For self-funded plan sponsors: the members not filling obesity prescriptions today are more likely to show up with diabetes or heart disease tomorrow. The spend isn't avoided. It's deferred.

What explains the split? The data points toward something specific.

Employers can't control their healthcare costs or outcomes without direct access to their data and the providers delivering care.

Jack Hill, our VP of Enterprise Development, joined Eric Tower on BRight Minds in Healthcare Delivery to break down how direct contracting, data transparency, and $0 out-of-pocket plan designs are changing the game for employers, providers, and patients.
