Our researchers are developing an “inner ear-on-a-chip” to better understand how the cells responsible for hearing and balance develop and whether damaged sensory hair cells can be regenerated. 👂

The research could help uncover new approaches to treating hearing loss and other inner ear disorders. Learn more: https://loom.ly/3-samyc

Dr. Jeffrey Goldberger and his team are testing an advanced heart-mapping technology that could help physicians better identify the electrical signals driving persistent atrial fibrillation and improve catheter ablation outcomes.

The EMPIRE-AF clinical trial is studying whether using this more precise mapping approach can help guide treatment based on each patient's individual heart rhythm rather than relying on standard ablation alone.

The study is currently enrolling patients with persistent AFib. Learn more about the research and participation: https://loom.ly/dduxpBc

A new clinical trial at the Miller School is exploring whether a personalized anti-inflammatory diet can help reduce inflammation in patients with Crohn's disease who continue to experience symptoms despite treatment.

Led by Dr. Oriana Damas, the study will look beyond diet alone, examining the gut microbiome, genetics and individual dietary preferences to better understand why patients respond differently and how nutrition could complement existing Crohn's disease treatments.

Some of the earliest biological signs associated with Alzheimer's disease may also appear in the gut. 🧠

In a new study, our researchers found Alzheimer's-related changes in lab-grown intestinal tissue, including damage to the gut barrier, inflammation and accumulation of hallmark disease proteins. The findings offer new clues into the gut-brain connection and could open new areas of research into earlier intervention and treatment.

High school students are helping reshape how their peers talk about su***de awareness and mental health through the Miller School of Medicine's School Health Initiative. 💚

By partnering with Miller School researchers and clinicians, students are developing peer-led programming that reduces stigma, encourages meaningful conversations and helps researchers better understand the approaches that resonate most with adolescents.
